tennswamper
Posting this for a friend. He has booked a 5 day bowhunt in IL. He has paid his deposit. The outfitter is being confusing on tags. Does the outfitter normally supply the tags and if so, is it smart to go ahead and apply for one himself in case the outfitter doesn't get his? I don't know anyone that has used an outfitter in IL. All went public or private so I didn't know. Any help would be appreciated.
BowJoe
Re: IL outfitter question In Illinois, each hunter Non-Resident must apply for archery doe and or buck tags online or over the phone personally. If you google IDNR, it should take you right to the website. Better hurry, it's either already past the lottery date or getting extremely close. No outfitter can purchase them for you. randyoitker1
Re: IL outfitter question A very important message to non-resident hunters buying online. When you apply for your tag,DO NOT purchase your hunting license and habitat stamp at that time. They will not refund this if you do not draw a tag. Some people think that when they print out the tag transaction, that that means they have a tag. You don't have a tag until you are notified by the IL. DNR by mail. This happened to an elderly gentleman that i know. Only buy a license and stamp after you recieve the info that you have a tag for sure. Also if you apply for a combo tag, it means for a buck and a doe. Some may think that its means archery and firearm. Please be sure to read everything on the DNR website before you purchase. I hope you get one and enjoy hunting in IL. as much as we do. Randy
popgun
Re: IL outfitter question Tell your friend to try and get his deposit back from the outfitter and wait until he has drawn tags for his hunt, then re-book the hunt. This will be our third year on the non-resident Illinois tag draw, and it still isn't looking good for my son and I. With a three year raincheck on our hunt, the outfitter could very well loose his lease or go out of business. Never again...We've learned our lesson. ....popgun
tennswamper
Re: IL outfitter question Thanks guys. For my info, why does the state set aside 7500 tags for outfitters in the drawing? I don't hunt IL but might be good to know all this if I decide to go in the future.

The reason may be for resident hunters who hunt inside IL to be able to book straight through the outfitter. But I am still willing to bet it's a drawing process for even those tags and not an first come first serve.
