johnf
I went in Gander Mt. this afternoon and saw some federal ammo in a blue box that was a little more than 1/2 of what everything else was(except for the wolf). Does anyone use this and do you have any idea of it's performance on game and at the range?
too_pointer
Re: Federal Ammo I have shot alot of Federal ammo through the years, but I'm used to the gold box. I might have to look on the web site to see what they have in the blue box. Here is their site, I don't see any blue boxes in their lineup. Federal Ammo too_
iron buck
Re: Federal Ammo The blue box is their basic (classic)ammo. With base grade not premium grade bullets. I use it for several rifles of mine that shoot it into MOA or slightly better. No deer will ever know it was killed with the economy grade ammo & not the premium stuff LOL I have always had great luck with Federal ammo in all grades. AJ
Re: Federal Ammo Is it the Power Shok line of ammo? They say: [ QUOTE ] PowerShok is just what you need to take your trophy and have a few bucks left to haul it to the taxidermist. All of Federal's "Classic" rifle options are exclusively available under the Power*Shok name and the most popular big game cartridges now feature the Grand Slam bullet from Speer. The unique jacket profile and fluted tip of the Grand Slam ensures reliable expansion over a wide velocity range. [/ QUOTE ] It's offered in most of the popular chamberings. It should be just fine on game. How will it shoot? It depends if your gun likes it or not. Who knows? The only way to find out is to try some. johnf
Re: Federal Ammo I went on the federal sight and found this. They are the last 100gr bullets on the chart. The ballistics are almost identical to the winchesters I shoot and the 100gr corelokt. They are both pushing $15 at Wal-Mart these days and the feds were just $9.99 at Gander. Next time I'm down there I'm going to pick some up to see if my gun likes them.

LifeNRA
Re: Federal Ammo [ QUOTE ] Have never tried federal ammo out of my deer rifles. [/ QUOTE ] I was a Remington nut for years, then one day I was having trouble getting sighted in. The shop I went to only had Federal, so I bought a box. Never went back to Remington. Federal in our camp - in 30-30, 30-06, and 7mm!
iron buck
Re: Federal Ammo Just looked at my box of 7mm mauser ammo from Federal. Blue box........it does say Power Shok. BAsically the same stuff as the old classic line. Shoots great from my Ruger.
RangerClay
Re: Federal Ammo My Marlin used to love the Remington Extended Range but they stopped making it. I started shooting Federal Premium w/ the Nosler Partition bullets and they shot a little better. I have not changed since. Ranger
johnf
Re: Federal Ammo I'm at my in-law's at the public library. Walmart carries the federals here for less than gander. $9 for my 243 and $7.50 for 30-30 shells. I'm gonna have to pick some up for that price. Jeramie
Re: Federal Ammo Wow! $9! Id be all over that even though I just bought the press! You almost cant buy primed brass for that!

too_pointer
Re: Federal Ammo I used Federal Primium for around 3 years in my Rem. 7400 .270. I has been using the Rem. core-Lokts before them. I honestly could not see any change what-so-ever except the $$ tags, so I went right back the the Rems. I have shot deer using both brands, same results too_
Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Federal Ammo Thanks for the info. I'll be at the local Gander soon and will look into changing. I must say that I do like my REM Core-lokts. They kill and are cheap. OH, plus shoot reasonably well for the cost.
johnf
Re: Federal Ammo There is good news, I went out to 300 yards today shooting prone (for the first time) and shot about a 2 1/2" 4 shot group with the federals. I don't know if it was just luck, or if they really shoot that good, but I was pretty darned impressed. I came back in to see how I could do at short distances off hand. At 100 yards with the scope on 3X I hit about a 3" 6 shot group standing with no rest. I think for $4 a box less, I'm going to switch to federals.
