Swamphunter
I am just about to spend the bucks to have my trusty Rem 700 30-06 reblued. I want to put a matte finish on it and will probably utilize Gander Mountain for this, although you guys have recommended a few others also that could be a possibility. I have one last question... What finish will mimick the matte finish on the scopes sold today? I want the rifle and scope to have a matching matte black finish. Thanks
AJ
Re: Metal finish? There are a couple of finishes that give a matte appearance. Parkerizing is the standby matte finish. This is a great first step when combined with an epoxy bake on finish like Gun Kote. Rust should never be a problem with this combination. The bake on finish will come very close to the matte finish on most scopes. Not all scopes look the same though, even though they have matte finish. Don't forget the mounts and rings. Ask the gunsmith to show you a sample of the finish. I realize they send the guns out to be finished, but they should have either a gun that has been done already or a piece of metal to show customers the finish before ordering. bearcat
Re: Metal finish? I think that a bead blasted-satin finish most closley matches the finishes on scopes and mounts. This finish can be done with blue or stainless.
