Need a load

Recommended Posts

What kind of load would you reccomend to mimic a 150 gr core lokt load for a 300 win mag.

I m getting into realoading and I was wondering because thats what has been shooting good out of my gun and I want to start there.

Does remington sell their core lokt slugs or should I opt for something else. I"m not looking for expansion here.

Re: Need a load

You can buy Remington Core Lokt bullets seperately from many reloading supply stores. If you were looking for other bullets to shoot, most any manufacturer has a standard soft point bullet available. Personally, I like Hornady spire points. They shoot very well and don't break the bank when I buy them. You can get decent bullets from Speer, Sierra, Nosler, Winchester, Remington, Hornady, and others.

When I was new to reloading, I was looking for a load that would perform as well or better than Rem Core Lokt 150 gr 30-06 factory loads. I could not get a load to come close. I wanted to eliminate the equipment, so I took some factory loads and pulled the bullets and basically re-assembled the factory components. That ammo would not shoot well. I quickly found it was the press that had too much slop. I went with a different press and the group sizes droped significantly.

Goose.........

If you are going to start reloading, I wouls look at 150 gr. bullets that are better designed, ballistically. I've got several rifles that shoot the factory Core-Lokt's into some VERY nice groups. But, fact is........the old Core-Lokt is a ballistic "pig" compared to many of today's available component bullets such as the Nosler AccuBond and the Barnes Triple Shock. Granted they will cost you more than the Core Lokt's. But, if you plan on shooting any long distances, you may be happier.

I would like to know about Rems.new Premier

Core-Lokt Ultra Bonded. Is this a large change from the Rem. Core-lokt ??

too_

It is a similar bullet but is more of a controlled expansion design. The CLUB is a bonded bullet, meaning the core and jacket are fused together as one. This will give higher weight retentions as the core will not (should not) seperate from the jacket while its expanding and traveling through the target medium. This can be important with hyper velocity cartridges and close range shots. Instead of fragging, the bonded core/jacket will (should) stay as one piece. Other than that, it appears to be a standard Core Lokt. The Core Lokt bullets are just a piece of lead that is swaged inside a copper jacket. Both use a tapered jacket.
