Guest Andrea
Has anyone noticed that with all the attention given to Bin Laden and Iraq....that we've not been watching our backdoor so to speak? North Korea has developed a nuclear missle that can reach the west coast of the U.S. They completely disregarded the U.N. and the U.S. and it's like they are thumbing their noses at us. They plan on testing it soon. Anyone been watching this on the news?????
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. This has been brewing for some time now. Right now it's mostly just posturing from that idiot Kim Jong-il, but the problem with trying to deal with idiots is that the only sure way to get their attention is to kick them in the teeth. Look at Khadafi, he was nothing but a pain in the backside to the U.S. until we bombed him, now he's pretty much minding his own business. I can see something similar in N. Korea's future if they don't watch out. If they do launch a long range ballistic missle test it might be a good opportunity for us to test our anti-ballistic missle system. Take their's out in mid flight and see what they have to say about it.
Gator
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. N Korea is ALOT of talk. They do crap like this EVERY year it seems as a ploy to get "help" in some form or another. I think they just wanna see how far they can push us. There are TO many countries in that reguion that DO NOT want them to become a nuclear power
Guest Andrea
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. According to this article....once the fueling of this missle starts ( and it has).....it has to be launched. It cannot be reversed. NOTE: Read the last paragraph of this article. Korea

OJR
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. It seems that they can hit the US with it! If they can, I hope they hit SF! It would save us a lot of problems!!

Diplomacy works the best...maybe sanctions...but just going to war for no real reason..I think that puts us in a bad light with good countries (like Canada). Dropping a few on a countries nuclear reactor/ facility because they have built a long range weapon that can reach the US coast and they state the reason for it is because they think for one second we care about taking over their country....?? Other than France, I think the world may tolerate this a bit better. After all, it could be them that gets hit with it.
wtnhunt
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. Hearing mixed messages on the news, and dont think anyone has neglected or turned their back to North Korea. Last night they said it may be as long as 5 years before N Korea has the warheads ready to be used on a missile, I personally think they are closer if not already there. They have been threatening and have been moving while they have been threatening to move forward with their program for a pretty good while, so this is really nothing new. What is new is that they now have a missile they are testing that will reach our country and I believe they have the ability to attach a warhead to. Dont really think nuking them is the answer just yet either. Unfortunately, that may be a last resort to take if they continue to make threats, just hope when the time comes we have a strong enough leader to stand up to the threats and deal with them properly. Guest Andrea
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. On the news this morning they showed a clip from a press conference with Donald Rumsfeld back in 2002. He distinctly said that we, the U.S. did NOT have an anti-missile system. And he said we had no way of defending ourselves against those type of ballistics. Today we do have a semi-successful anti-missile system but it has only worked HALF the time when tested. Isn't that nice???

horst
Re: N. wtnhunt
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. They were working on strategic defense back when Reagan was in office. Pretty sure that they had the technology and equipment then to intercept missles such as this one, surely our government even with having had Clinton in office for 8 years has not lost that. Guest Andrea
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. Well, they are now saying that the missile is on the launchpad and could be deployed at any moment. Didn't catch the name of the guy who said this...but he was quoted in the Washington Post as saying that we should take out the missile on the launchpad......not to wait til it's been launched. I think that oughta wake those Koreans up!!!
horst
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. i went through and read a few articals that were done in the last 10 years or so and estimates range anywhere from 50% clear down to 20% on weather we can successfully blow a missile outta the sky I do seem to remember when this administration started testing these and they had very poor success rates and these were tests set up by them, wonder how theyll fare against a missile they didnt launch themselves
wtnhunt
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. Watched an advisor named Carter on cnn saying that diplomacy should not be taken off the table, but however he feels as though force,"strike and destroy", is going to have be taken against N. Korea. Not sure how successful they were Chris. Surely that stuff is all pretty top secret stuff that the media didnt get to know as much about as they would like to. I graduated high school in 87 and really did not follow world events all that closelyback then, had other things I was thinking about, but seems I remember anti missle lasers and anti misssle missles were being worked on back then. They said earlier today that the missle in question has a range of just under 10,000 miles, and could possibly reach into the mid portion of our country. Andrea, I also heard someone earlier today on the news mention making a precision strike on the missile and the launch site. Might have been John Roberts after talking about his interview with Cheney, cannot remember.

wtnhunt
Re: N. Korea........trying the U.S. Anyone wondering how Clinton had our nations debt under control or had us to a surplus. If my memory serves me well, we had more cuts in military funding and military tech during the Clinton admin than under any ever before. They were not needed right? All those who thought Clinton was so great, might need a little reminder here about some these cuts he made. Pretty sure SDI was big talk under Reagan. A lot of funding was going into what if I remember correctly was called the "star wars" program. Have not heard much or really anything about that since the draw down in nukes, but even if Clinton completely cut the program, he could not possibly have been stupid enough to leave us with nothing to fall back on with all of what went into that program.
