coyote question

Yesterday morning walking out to my deer stand I heard a couple of somethings behind where I burn our garbage run off. First thought it was a couple deer, but they never blew or stomped or anything and I did not really think much more about it. About 30 minutes after I got back in from hunting had 2 coyotes come up behind the house about 90 yards or so off back behind where I burn the garbage at.

My gun was still sitting out on the front porch so I grabbed the wifes .243. I cracked the back door open and think they saw me and looked like they were going to turn and head back down the hill, I got off a pretty good shot on one of them. They took off down the hill into the woods and could not get another round in the chamber fast enough to get a shot on the second one. Sure the one I hit was fatally hit, a quick look I found a good sized chunk of bone and quite a bit of good bright red blood where I shot it and just down the hill a bit, but I did not really go looking for it deep in the woods. Did not want to go trapsing through the woods before going back out to deer hunt in the afternoon. They had dug up one end of the carcass from the deer my wife killed last Saturday, guessing it was the coyotes earlier in the morning when I was walking out that I had heard. I checked last night several times and this morning thinking the one that ran off or even some others might come back to chew on the carcass some more, but never saw them.

Seeing as how they were back there in the morning after 10 a.m., if I leave the carcass uncovered partially like it is, what are the chances of seeing some coyotes back there again during daylight anytime soon?

Re: coyote question

Pretty good, I think. We do this with dead stock animals and the yotes seem to start coming daily once the human odor dies down a bit. Usually 24-48 hours, sometimes a little sooner. Just don't mess with the carcass and they'll come back for more.
