Re: need a gun

always a good way to go is with a good 30 caliber for all around shooting. been more animals taken with a 30 cal gun than any other i know of. i myself like the 308 and then 30-06 they will both do a great job for you and will definately be worth the money spent.

as for a gun i would say look into the encore if you want a single shot or the savage if you prefer a bolt action. you can get a good set up that is sighted in or you can buy a nicer scope and have it set up to goand bore sight it and dial it in. the savage is a great out of box gun that is really a top notch for accuracy

Re: need a gun

All of these posts are right. Inside of 150 yards and dense cover, any of the above calibers will cover you. If indeed you are thinking of the moose hunt though, consider a single shot rifle w/ an interchangable barrel, such as the T/C Encore, or the Mossberg (think its a SR1), Ruger #1, if money is a concern, consider the NEF line of single shots, best of luck.

Re: need a gun

The .308 Winchester or the .30-06 would be my first choices. Both will kill a deer or moose as dead as any magnum will. Ammo is easy to obtain and relatively inexpensive. Its also a bit easier on the shoulder than the magnums. It will still reach out and drop deer at 300+ yards when the shooter is up to the task.

Re: need a gun

I would go with a 300 WSM. You can find in in many fine rifles like the Model 70 and Browning A-Bolt. Its lightweight and more efficent cartrige produces higher velocities and energy but since it contains 7% less poder it kicks about the same as a a heavier. 300 mag. Use a 150 gr. bullet for deer and a 180gr bullet for Moose.
