Are the deer alarmed by the blind? Which type repels water and wind the best? What type is the best bang for the buck? Thanks for any input. Seriously though, I have the Outhouse and it is too small for archery, and for my son and I. Alone for deer it would be perfect. You spray them with a water repellant silicone to help waterproof them. The outhouse (Named for its shape), let rain in through the windows. My DogHouse Blind nearly killed me several times before I perfected folding that thing up.... But, now I can tear than baby down, and pack it up in under 3 Min. ... I got it by chance at a local sporting goods store for $79 it was a display model. The windows are the perfect height for both Bow or Rifle hunting. The "Hubs" are strong and lock out easily yet collapse quickly from the outside. I can have this blind setup in a minute and taken down in less than that. Other, less expensive blinds will work, but once you hunt out of a Double Bull, you'll never want to go back to the other blinds. You get what you pay for. Then again what is the one up at Cabelas were me at 6'3" and i could stand in it to shoot my bow. Not sure what that one is called my uncle has it. I have an Ameristep Brickhouse that I have hunted out of the last couple of years and it has worked very good. Try to set the blind out of line sight with the trail your hunting. I also like to get off the trail around 15 to 20 yards. For deer I always use the shoot through netting and try to brush it in. The easiest setup in setting it under a tree that has alot of low hanging branches. I have been fortunate enough to take 3 deer and 2 antelope from my blind and it can be a very effective tool to have in your arsenal. It's great too if you have young kids that you are afraid to put in a tree stand. The Brickhouse is a very nice blind for the money but I have had a few durability issues with it and think I will upgrade to Double Bull next purchase. I'm 6 foot 6 and its way to hard. but gun hunting with a partner is perfect. I hunted out of it numerous times last season with my dad, freinds and girlfriend. Ameristep has good service, one time we bought a Brickhouse blind and there was a ton of tiny holes and unblackend parts on the inside. It sets up and breaks down pretty fast and quietly. It is my favorite stand/blind to hunt out of when it is raining. I've had a few deer and other critters get within feet of it. I've used Double Bull, Ameristep brickhouse, Groundmax matrix, and Ameristep doghouse. I will never use a doghouse again but the first 3 I will. Double Bull is simply the best. They thought of everything. I can't think of anything they could improve on. The Brickhouse and Groundmax look like they copied double bull a bit. The basic setup is nice. They're easy to put up, sturdy and don't blow in the wind but they've got a few problems. Their biggest problem is noise. Unlike the Double bull, they have noisy fabric and noisy zippers and velcro. Double bull has silent fabric and silent windows. Also, Ameristep and Groundmax windows aren't the best. Their windows are too big and the wrong shape. If you have a window all the way open, it's too much and the animals will see you and they're hard too shoot out of since they are triangular shaped. Switched to an Ameristep Roundhouse and it's big enough for 2 people. My son and I have hunted out of it many times, and hopefully my wife will join me sometime just for kicks. Our setup is a little different though. Our popup blind sits on a 8'x8' platform that we built on 12' treated 4x4 posts. Best of both worlds - enclosed to trap scent and block wind, rain and snow, but high enough to get a good view of the woods! Everyone that's tried Double Bull seems to love them....maybe someday... Just depends on what you can afford and if you leave it out in the woods often. Scumbags could steal it!! The Doghouse and Brickhouse by Ameristep are good blinds and really a great deal!
