puffy
Re: Local hunting casualty... Maybe the 71yr old gent has failing sight and couldn't identify his target!???? It's a sad thing to not know what your shooting at and then find out it was another fellow hunter.

Doc
Re: Local hunting casualty... Was it a case of mistaken identity, or a lack of knowing what's behind the deer? Mistaken identity is never an accident. A hidden hunter in the background can be. The best example of that would be to put a deer in the foreground of that camo commercial on TV that asks you to pick out the camoflaged hunters in the woods. That points out how easy it would be for an errant ricochet or miss, to easily hit a hunter. It also points out the value of blaze orange as a lifesaver during gun season. VTbowman
Re: Local hunting casualty... Is it just me or does shooting that late seem illegal? Not sure where it was exactly, so maybe not, but I know thats way after legal in my area... Well by 15 mintues anyways, which is pretty dang dark... (I have taken into account the time difference for VT to OK) Plus being an older guy, his eyes must not be what they were and it was plain stupid for him to be shooting in the 1st place that late in the day.. That poor man that was shot... and his family too. I may be being insensitive to the shooter and it being deemed an accident, but I feel it should not of happened in the 1st place and was extremely poor judgement to shoot at all on his part given the situation. It does not sound like the victom was hidden at all, just walking out after an evening hunt. Was he wearing blaze orange? That may of saved his life if he had been. Its sad for both families but he should have to answer for what he did not just be let off due to being an old man... JMO

flyrod64
Re: Local hunting casualty... Thats a shame. Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as a hunting accident. I have never knocked the safety till I was sure of what I was looking at. Thoughts and prayers for the family

jerdanmagic
Re: Local hunting casualty... I too huint in South Eastern OK and I know that my last concieveable shot is at 5:35 pm and this man was shot a solid 15 mins after that. That is just really bad judgement and Its too bad that someone had to pay for such a novice mistake
