VermontHunter
Well, it's time to change the brake rotors and pads on my S-10 4X4... I would like to use some crossed drilled rotors but they seems pretty pricey,, the cheapest I could find were $139.00 each. and that didn't include the shipping... I can get OEM rotors for about $85 a piece right from the dealer.... Any suggestions or opinions on rotors for a 4X4 ???
VTbowman
Re: Brake Rotors JMO but the kind of driving you do I would just stick with the OEM stuff... I know you have a sweet truck and all but no need to spend extra on something like that when you really dont need it. Beside you drive like an old man so you barely use your brakes now. LOL (jk)

VTbowman
Re: Brake Rotors Is for me. LOL I have driven with you and I dont ever remember 60 mph. But then again we were not on any straight or level roads either. Good thing now that I think of it. LOL

Leo
Re: Brake Rotors I'm in the brake rebuild phase too. The Carquest Aftermarket rotors are pretty reasonable and darn good. You may not need new rotors. They might not even need to be machined. But machining them is usually $20 or less each. I was told by a very experienced mechanic that cross-drilled rotors are BAD NEWS if you drive in mud. If you have your heart set on cross drilled. Some machine shops will drill your existing rotors cheaper than you can buy new. But those holes collect and hold mud. The Bendix Titaniumetallic pads are the OEM pads and alot cheaper

VermontHunter
Re: Brake Rotors I can type pretty darn quick Leo... Here's what I came up with.... Bendix Brake Rotor Premium grade product Manufactured to exacting quality and dimensional specs "Made in USA" and "Made in Canada" to the highest industry materials standards All rotors are machined and balanced for immediate installation Rotors match original equipment style on full cast and composite designs 2 Year Replacement Warranty $52.96 each... Bendix Brake Pads: TitaniuMetallic II Bendix TitaniuMetallic II provides unsurpassed braking performance right out of the box. TitaniuMetallic is a coating that is applied to the pad's friction surface during the manufacturing process. This coating raises the brake pad's initial stopping power while the pad mates to the rotor surface. After about 50 stops the TitaniuMetallic coating wears away, having completed the pad-rotor surface mating process. What remains is a premium Bendix semi-metallic brake pad that will provide miles of outstanding performance across a wide range of operating conditions. Lifetime Replacement Warranty $37.77 set

wtnhunt
Re: Brake Rotors Seems pretty high to me Luke. Had to put rotors on my full size truck, and seems like they were around $35 a piece for the lifetime warranty rotors at auto zone or motor parts. If the rotors are not too bad they may be able to be turned.

Thanks for reminding me I got to start calling around!!! I had my original rotors turned down once before, not sure if I can get them again. The rotor on my full size blazer never needed this! Ill probably get some new ones, guys at work mentioned Bendix. I guess you need to put on new brakes as well?
huntn4bucks
Re: Brake Rotors I would go with the OEM rotors too. I would have to agree with Leo in regards to Carquest rotors. I've had good experience with rotors purchased from them. I have NOT had good results when it comes to having rotors turned. I pull the rotors off and take them to a machine shop myself so the cost is minimal; however, it's been my experience that I have had to replace them shortly there after. I've done this on several occassions and will probably never have another set turned...I'll just buy new ones and do the job once.

VermontHunter
Re: Brake Rotors Those are the ones.... cross cutt and drilled.... I was told by many, that these were a big waste of money, unless you are doing alot of high speed braking.... The OEM replacements are suppose to be as good, at a fraction of the cost.. LifeNRA
Re: Brake Rotors Well, since I do a lot of highway driving and braking from the other idiots that dont know how to drive! LOL!!! I am probably getting these myself.

Leo
Re: Brake Rotors While you're already into the brakes. It's a good idea to check the condition of the pins and bushings. Also the piston boot on the caliper is a common failure point. Replace these too while your at it if they show any damage.

LifeNRA
Re: Brake Rotors Didnt get them yet, Monday. I think I am getting the ones from NAPA. I called the local NAPA store they have the Bendix ones for $55 a piece, and new ceramic pads for $50 a set. Gonna do this Saturday. Ilike them other rotors but $140 a piece is a bit too much! Saturday is my rotor school day!
VermontHunter
Re: Brake Rotors I agree John, I think the cross drilled and slotted rotors are over kill for applications like ours... Definately stay with the Bendix name tho, they are awsome rotors and pads.. GOOD LUCK !! Saturday...
