Guest Buckfever1613
I have a good stand of corn going and it is about 18 inches tall. I can water this plot about 3 times a week and was curious if i need to add any nitrogen to the soil or anything else. i limed and fertilized before i planted but wanted to know if there was anything else i could do to help out the corn. thanks for any help
wtnhunt
Re: Question on Planted Corn Wouldnt hurt to side dress the corn with some fertilizer. Been using triple 13 on mine.
Tominator
Re: Question on Planted Corn Sweet corn, or field? Doesn't really matter, but yeah, like William said side dress with triple 12, or triple 16 or even 19. Corn is a big time nitrogen user. rifleman25
Re: Question on Planted Corn As a farmer I will tell you unless the yield (bushels per acre) are a concern I wouldn't spend the extra money on it. I use a mix of uria, potash, amonium sulfate, zinc, and top it off with a couple passes from my manure spreader before planting. I don't even worry about the weeds in my food plots like I would in a field. Seems to do alright for me.
wtnhunt
Re: Question on Planted Corn Guess it depends on if you are talking corn for you in a garden or for the deer. If it is for you in a garden it is well wroth the time to fertilize, if it a big plot and is not for you I would not worry about fertilizing it. I've experimented with my sweetcorn from not fertilizing and not weeding to weeding and fertilizing and, hands down the best yield in sweetcorn came from sweetcorn that was weeded and fertilized. bigbuckdown70
Re: Question on Planted Corn did you have a soil smple done pefore you planted if you did and every thing was good i wouldnt worry about it but if your ph lever is under 7 the percentage that the fertlizer actuly works goes down under 6.8 on your ph only 30 percent of it will take
