wtnhunt
Re: Trail Cams? Was sold on the stealth 35 mm cams until mine took a final dive on me. But really for no more than I paid for that cam, I cannot complain. It took thousands of pics before it died.

remington870
Re: Trail Cams? i agree with bond, homebrews hands down. I can build a 6 MP camera for about $250 easy, will take way better pictures than any camera on the market at that price. I have 3 homebrews out now and a video unit that takes exceptional video. just bought three more cameras to build more as i get the money to get the parts together. scott

What makes them take better pictures? I realize of course the megapixels, but I am guessing that you are also meaning less missed pics and such. If so, what makes them faster and why aren't Cuddeback, Leaf River and the others using these components? Thanks
remington870
Re: Trail Cams? yes they use components but they do not all stack up to the same level. back a few years ago i was using olympus d-380's and the trigger time was almost instant, however the camera was a 2mp. Now i am sacrificing speed a bit for higher quality. the new sony dsc-s600 is the 6mp camera i am using and it seems to be about a 2-3 second trigger time. if you go to www.pixcontroller.com you can get a ton of information on game cameras. These are the boards i use. There are others on the market but i have never had a problem with his boards.

Thanks [/ QUOTE ] Cost. Camtrakker and pennswoods use these components. We can make them for $200 - $300. They can probably make them cheaper because they get all their components in bulk and without a middle man. But they charge $700. So think how much Moultrie, Leaf River, and Cuddeback are making their cams for and how much profit they are getting per cam if Penns woods and camtrakker are making over $500 in profit per cam. Just because they cuddeback charges $400, doesn't mean that's how much they're putting into their cam. We probably have more money into our homebrews than cuddeback puts into their cams. Another point I should make along the same lines - There is no reason for Ir cams to cost more than white flash cams. It costs the same to make both, the only reason they cost more is because of demand and if consumers wait, the price of IRs will come down to about the same as a white flash cam.
