WIDeer4Life
I've been curious as to whether or not the flash from trail cameras scare deer or not? I've read that they do, and I've also read that they don't. So really, I don't know what to think. Give me your opinions, guys. Thanks! slughunter
Re: Does flash scare deer? I dont really think that it does, but with film cameras, when the film exeeds to the next spot, thats what scares deer, thats why digital is so nice. just my .
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Does flash scare deer? I have a trail cam that is set up in my backyard and I watch it take pics of deer all the time. the very first pic it took I watched it take. It was of a buck that had never seen a trail cam before with its face about 10 inches away from the camera. The flash went off and it didn't flinch. I have seen deer flinch at the flash though. They never run from it though.

6sixpoint_nobrows
Re: Does flash scare deer? nope not at all...they say they think its lightning or something...but as proof...my buddy was going out to put out his camera...he heard something coming towards him so he hurried up and turned on his camera and slowly turned around and sure enough a doe was walking right to him...he moved his finger in front of the senser to trigger than cam to get a pic of her and the flash went off several times and she didnt spook or nothing...she walked off without blowing or anything...True Story! TreeWalker
Re: Does flash scare deer? I think SLughunter covered it pretty well....before I went digital, it seemd that it was the fiml advance on the 35mm models that was what did any spooking...even then it did not happen very often..... Bond
Re: Does flash scare deer? Do a search, this has been discussed a lot about whether or not flash spooks deer and whether or not to get an Ir cam. joeyd50
Re: Does flash scare deer? I think flash does spook mature bucks, I have lots of pictures of small bucks and does over and over again. I also have three pictures of 3 different very big bucks, only one picture each, I have never seen these bucks again. I have gone with all IR cameras now, so if flash spooks deer or not, way take a chance, go IR Good Luck Joe

[/ QUOTE ] I have found that the film advance doesnt even scare deer much either, but if anything does its that is it, like this little buck below came up to my camera for 3 minutes and never spooked. I was using a 35mm camera as mentioned, it all depends on the deer, I have even thought that the human scent on the camera might be a factor in scaring them. slug

wtnhunt
Re: Does flash scare deer? They definitely do not like the mechanical sounds of a 35 mm cam, the winding and clicking sounds like a stealth cam makes. Think they kind of get used to the flash somewhat. Have watched a few deer shortly after putting our first camera out that did not really seem to like the flash.
