WNY_Whitetailer
I just want to start this post by saying that I am addicted to black rifles...I like shotguns but love AR-15s... Friday was long gun day at the range. We started off by learning a basic overview of the AR-15 and the Remington 870 shotgun. I was already familiar with the 870 so I was really interested in the AR talk. After the intro was finished we moved down to the range to start making holes in our targets. The AR was awesome to shoot. I was able to group incredibly tight with open sites at 50 yards without an issue or very much practice. The trigger is so much lighter than the Glock and the recoil is close to nonexistent...Boy, do I love the smell of that gun powder when the AR goes off... I wish I could carry an AR instead of the Glock but I don't think that my fellow citizens would appreciate me coming to their door for a barking dog call with an AR strapped across my chest. Then it was time to shoot the 870 with bird shot...As you all know, the recoil is manageable. We were shooting steel clangers, poppers, and disks with the bird shot...Man does that 870 mow them down. Anyway, I am now a black rifle fan...I had never shot one before but now I am trying to find a way to fit one into my budget...Looks like it will be a little under $900.00 for the Bushmaster model that I was shooting. AJ
Re: Tales from the range...AR 15 and Rem 870... Oh yeah! The AR is a sweet setup. They got a lot of bad press back in the early 80s for failures to feed and not operating well when dirty. The versions that are out today will hang with just about any semi auto that has a high capacity. It's the 10/22 of the centerfire rifle world. There are more aftermarket toys, tweaks, and upgrades you can get it will make your head spin.
Tominator
Re: Tales from the range...AR 15 and Rem 870... I used to love going to the range when I was in the service. We only had to qualify once a year, but since I was on boarding parties and my buddy was the gunnersmate onboard, he took me all the time. We used to start with the 1911 .45's then on to the riot 870 with 00 buckshot, then on to the M-16. Talk about a fun day.
