WIDeer4Life
Went to where Im going to be bowhunt this year and checked the alfalfa field (which is about 50 yards from my stand) to see what kind of deer were out there. 9 deer total, group of 5 bucks and the rest were does from what I could tell. Im just wondering how long these deer will be feeding in the alfalfa field before moving on to corn or soybeans. Theres also a soybean field on the other side of my stand a couple hundred yards away. SO basically, Im all set. Just wondering where I should except the deer to be feeding, especially when primerut is around, which is usually early November here. Thanks guys. Guest ILclimber
Re: When to hunt certain crops Well, usually I like to get on bean fields early, very early the first week of October, then as it get cooler, I like to head back into the timber a little more often, and then I enjoy going to picked cornfields. There is something special about a picked cornfield in a bottom area in November!
wtnhunt
Re: When to hunt certain crops Around here the bean and corn fields would have to be early on hunting, like during the bow season. Very rarely are those fields not harvested by mid October.
Tominator
Re: When to hunt certain crops Most of the beans are off by late October here, and a good deal of the corn is off too. I like hunting around corn. The deer in this area use it for cover as much as a food source and the row crop nature of corn really funnels them. I planted 7.5 acres in my foodplot this year and I won't harvest it 'til after deer season if at all. They live in it 'round here....just not many people leave it stand. The beans are good 'til they start turning yellow and then again in January if it's still standing. They tear it up when it gets really cold around here.....but corn is still hard to beat. archerjg
Re: When to hunt certain crops Here the deer feed in the alfalfa and other hay fields year round and eat the beans and corn when they are young and tender or just about ready to pick in late October early November. The hay fields are a constant source of nutrition for deer around here along with acorns. Archerjg

brad dryden
Re: When to hunt certain crops I tend to hit the beans first part of october but usually I try and find acorns but corn around her is a real good place to be as well.
