bozz
Yes I confess......love this time of year shopping for my 9 yr. old who is spoiled just a little.....it gets tuffer ever year to get the kid who has everything....we just built a new house so there's more pressure to get stuff for the house.....yeah thats a lot of fun...NOT...except for the gas fireplace we need I can put off the little stuff till next year.....my boy has plenty of guns, camo, even owns his own GPS unit....so hunting gear is in good shape.....then last year we discover a new expensive hobbie.....thanks alot to Pep Boys auto.....I got him a $400 2-stroke gas power mini chopper bike.....what fun great bike.......ok here's where my addiction gets really bad and costly........Pep Boys continues to expand its inventory and now has many different kinds.....so last spring we (him) fall in love with this 49cc 4 speed dirt bike for only $ 400......no problem....he's my only child...maybe we need 2 bikes for his friends and me....lol. Just when I thought it was safe to go back in that dreaded Pep Boys store again.....they come out with this really cool looking mini gas power sport cycle.....we fall in love all over again...ha. No problem for my only child.......I'll just sell the mini-chopper (not the dirt bike...we really dig that) and get one of these for him and his friends (not me of course).....cool...the plan works......all is well until I see a newspaper ad from you know who-store (my wife woN't allow me to say the name anymore..P.B.) and once again the temptation takes me.......they will soon be getting in some A.T.V.'s....gas power and electric....full size and small...along with a really cool looking electric power Go-Kart.....DANG.....I HATE THAT STORE !!.....ok...ok....next plan.....I sold the mini-sport bike yesterday to make room for our next big toy......not sure yet....but I have $$$ and will spend on my poor lonely and only son,......jeeeze.....where will it end ?.....can anybody relate to this with guns and bows ? How do you treat this addiction ?......its just too much fun and I really like shopping for him....he's a great kid....thanks for letting me share this with ya. Sorry gotta go Pep boys will be open soon and I need a new plan......lol !!
NY911Bowhunter
Re: My holiday addiction for my only child...... Great to spoil him....I do the same - just not with the pricetags you do!!!!! I want to be able to get my son the things I couls not have cause'n we was poor. One word of advice - make him work for it - to get all of these new toys without work will ruin him. Make him appreciate things
HuntingInMaine
Re: My holiday addiction for my only child...... [ QUOTE ] Great to spoil him....I do the same - just not with the pricetags you do!!!!! [/ QUOTE ] Same here, I have two boys, so the price tags aren't quiet as extravagent, but if the money was there, my kids would be spoiled rotten! I do make them earn the bigger tag items (and cleaning their room doesn't count, I will NOT pay them to clean up messes they made!LOL) If you are worried about him being spoiled, make sure he knows that there are a lot of kids who aren't going to have such a good Christmas and maybe let him pick a name off those giving trees they have in the stores and let him pick up a gift for a child less fortunate. It's something I have done with the boys every year and I think they get more joy from knowing they have helped than they do opening their own gifts. As for controlling yourself....well it sounds like your wife has TWO kids to watch out for! LOL If the money is there, I don't see why you shouldn't buy things that make you happy. If the addiction gets out of hand, there is a shopper's anonymous group that might be able to help! LOL
bozz
Re: My holiday addiction for my only child...... Great idea......yeah I'm teaching him about giving....only reason I can afford to do this is because I get a gas allowance check every month....play money......but every time I sell a $ 400 bike I lose $ 200 ....oh well..we don't spend much on vacations or eating out......at least he shares these big toys......yeah we'll stop somehwere I'm sure.....I love to give even when I sell I make it a great deal for the buyer.....I have a hard time spending on me.....but not for the family....even tho I'm just a big kid too and enjoy these toys as well....ha. Swamphunter
Re: My holiday addiction for my only child...... I always have a hard time telling them "no" to something that they really want. I do, but it is tough. I guess I want them to have the stuff I didn't have as a child. Its hard not to spoil them, but I do my best to make them understand the value of money and earning things as opposed to having it all handed to them, even though sometimes they are broken hearted and so am I. bozz
Re: My holiday addiction for my only child...... Yeah I think every dad wants better for his kids.....and it is really hard to say no.....I'm a softy and crazy about my boy......he's a straight A's student in his gifted classes (takes after his mom and not me...ha).....it tuff teaching them to be patience and wait.....I really like lay-a-way dept's., because of what it can teach a kid......too bad many stores are doing away with them....like toy's-r-us and others......I'll try to go lighter in spending this year with the needs for our new house.....and I did walk out of Pep-Boys yesterday with out buying...yahoo......but thats only because they have not got the new bikes in yet....hee....hee.
