Texan_Til_I_Die
Well, I just got back from a business trip to Alexandria, Minnesota. Really enjoyed the weather and managed to slip in an afternoon of fishing. One of the corporate big wigs that was hosting the conference lives on a lake up there and he let my boss and I use his Lund walleye boat. We were fishing Lake Minnewaska and of course neither one of us had ever seen it before. Heck, I’d never even been to Minnesota until this trip. We went to the local tackle shop and picked up a one day fishing license and a few lures to try. That was a shock too. They didn’t have much of anything like we use down south. I did find a couple of packages of Super Flukes and some 4 inch ring worms that didn’t look too bad. Now keep in mind that I don’t have a clue what I’m supposed to be doing to catch fish up there, or even what kind of fish are in the lake. So I decided to fish for what I’m best at, largemouth bass, and treat it like I would a Texas lake in the spring. I started out fishing the outside edge of a large reed bed throwing the Fluke. Fished about 100 yards of reeds and had one bite that I missed. I found an opening that let me move to the inside edge between the shoreline and the reeds. We immediately started getting bites. Ended up with 30 – 35 largemouths weighing up to 2.5 lbs. I thought that was pretty darn good considering that I wasn’t even sure they had largemouths in that lake. All in all, it was a really fun trip.
