Guest fishermanwhohunts
How do I hunt a timber surrounded on all sides by corn. I'm going to have to hunt a place like that this year.
Tominator
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn Perfect! I love situations like that! Look around the corners and areas where trails head into the corn, I'm betting you'll find deer damage there. That's where you want to hang a stand. Deer in my area use the corn as travel corridors and cover. They think they're safe, but they're not. The only drawback to corn is getting to your stand site quietly; it's easier on windy days though.
Guest fishermanwhohunts
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn I forgot one detail. There is a creek going through the timber and between the two fields.

Guest fishermanwhohunts
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn I forgot something else, there is a guy at the end we have no access to who uses corn as a food plot and leaves it up all season. buckee
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn How large is the bush.( ?yrds X ?yrds). Have you ever been is this section of bush before to scout it out, and see where all the bedding areas are? There are so many great oportuntities here, it's awesome. You will be able to have a stand for every wind condition and for morning or evening hunts.
Guest woodsnwater
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn You need a hunting partner?.(lol) Tominator gave you solid advice. You will learn more as you hunt it and see the deer pattern.

c_lou
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn [ QUOTE ] I forgot one detail. There is a creek going through the timber and between the two fields. [/ QUOTE ] Use the creek as your entrance and exit route. The sound of the water should mask your approach. Tominator gave good advice(boy that pains me to say J/K ) look for trails leading into the corn from the timber. Hopefully there is a nice fat Iowa corn bred buck around. Tominator
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn Walking a waterway serves 2 purposes. Masks your scent, and sound walking in. If the wind permits, heck yeah, walk right down the creek.
c_lou
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn [ QUOTE ] I don't walk throught the water, do I? [/ QUOTE ] Yup! Wear a pair of knee high rubber boots and tuck your pants into them. Walk in the edge of the creek or if it's shallow enough, right down the middle. Guest fishermanwhohunts
Re: Hunting a timber surrounded by corn I forgot that last year there was a doe and a yearling something right where I would enter the creek. I don't know if they're dead from shotgun season, but I like to make special care not to spook them.
