VTbowman
Was out helping a nieghbor with finding his spike the other day. We found he had hit it pretty far back to his dismay. The deer was very much alive when we came up on him and was trying his best to stand and run but both rear legs were broken badly. I had my Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357 Mag and this guy left his gun at the truck. (I guess he felt confdent it was dead...???) I finsished the deer off with a shot to the front shoulder at about 18 yards. I was trying to hit the ribs but the deer was still trying to evade us. Just getting a broad side shot was a chore in itself... Although I was tagged out and this was always considered the other guys deer. I was still given credit (unofficially) for the kill shot. My 1st buck with a hand gun!!! Its not exactly how I was wanting it to go. I was hoping to catch one within 40 yards or closer of a stand, but I suppose my good deed counts too... Congrats to my nieghbor on tagging his buck... (Sorry no pics)
hangunnr
Re: Got to close the deal with my .357 mag! That counts in my book. You at least got to see the terminal effects of you gun on a critter. Good job!! hangunnr
VTbowman
Re: Got to close the deal with my .357 mag! Well handgunnr, I was pretty impressed on how freakin loud the .357 is compared to my 300 UM but then again were talking quite a diff in barrel length. I though my left ear was gonna come right off and start its own blood trail. (1st time shooting it without ear protection) I was using the bullets my old man gave me with it so it was not the ammo you suggested. (no money) they were a Win. 158 grain hollow point. Casing look silver not brass. Anyways it went threw one shoulder, just missed under the spine and into the far shoulder. I did not see an exit wound so I should be able to dig out the slug.. hangunnr
Re: Got to close the deal with my .357 mag! Yep........ They are pretty loud when shot without hearing protection. You will find that when you're staring down the sights at a deer you intend to shoot that you won't even hear the gun go off. When I'm hunting with one of my single shots I have a set of muffs with me. They are just too loud to be shot without. If you find the bullet, try and post a pic. I'm curious as to how well it held up. hangunnr
VTbowman
Re: Got to close the deal with my .357 mag! I will indeed post pics of it and the buck. We just did not have a digi camera there at the time. I just hope he did not take it down to the processors yet...??? May have to call him shortly... LOL At least to get the slug... VTbowman
Re: Got to close the deal with my .357 mag! Sorry folks the deer had been brought to the processors before I could request they dig out the slug. I will just have to shoot more deer... BTW it is a S&W 158 grain hollow point (.357 Mag)
