The only ritual(if you want to call it that) that I have is always checking my broadheads to makes sure they are sharp, and always making sure my buck-knife is sharp. Rhino Posted July 7, 2006 Report Share Posted July 7, 2006 Re: Bowhunting Rituals? Wake up and enjoy and early morning cup of coffee or 2 with my closest hunting buddy on the back porch of our camp. Next would be going through my fanny pack to make sure I have what I want for that hunt including enough water and removing things I won't need. Then it's time to shower and get dressed (all the scent free rituals here) before I load up to head to my stand. Load up and head to where I park within walking distance of my stand and last but not least, empty my bladder before I go to the stand. Everything after that is take it as it comes. When we get to the woods we all get our safety stuff and outer layers on..and somehow were always picking at each other. We all stand together and someone leads a prayer and when we head to our different stands you always hear "shoot a mathews" or "shoot a pse" and all our different bows. I practice Practice practice and pack and repack my back pack aobut 3 or 4 times and then make sure I have everything at the door waiting for me to grab as I go out the door. I pee at least twice before I go to my stand and I always stop at the store and buy two bottles of either gatorade or propel water. If one isn't empty by the time I get to my stand, then I pour one out. I also buy sunflower seeds and gum. I always stick my used gum on the tree branch beside me.I then call and talk to my buddy who is either hunting with me or out somewhere else hunting and we talk about what we will do if we get one. While packing stuff for a rifle hunting trip when I was 13 years old, I asked my dad for a clean white hankerchief to wipe my nose. He said they were all in the wash, so I found this deep purple one and took it instead. After I shot my first buck at 7:45AM that day, I field dressed him, and it came in handy to wipe my hands clean. Since that day I've kept that purple hankerchief in my pocket to wipe my hands if I have to dress out a deer. Its been there for me every time for over 10 years, and I always make sure I have it before I leave. The blood of every deer I've taken has been wiped away with it.
