mossyhorn
Re: tree stands? I love my climber. I like being able to setup anywhere i would like. But there are also a lot of good straight trees here.
need2hunt
Re: tree stands? comfortable is my preference I have had some back issues and comfort is my main consideration in any stand, plus you can hunt longer out of a comfortable stand. With saying that I hunt most of the time out of my Summit Viper X4 climber. I'll hunt out of any safe stand if I know there's a good chance the deer that I'm looking for are going to be there

ODH
Re: tree stands? actually I am really good with metal fabrication so all my stands are homemade as well as very safe.
Tominator
Re: tree stands? Climber. Only drawback is packing it in and out, it's a little noisy setting up, and sometimes you have the ideal spot, but not suitable trees.
wtnhunt
Re: tree stands? Funny this question comes up, I am trying to figure out now whether to build another ladder stand, or try to build a stick type ladder and a hang on. I like my homemade steel ladder stands for all types of hunting. Like my homemade blinds for taking my kids. Prefer the climber primarily for bowhuting in the early season when there is still good cover.
johnf
Re: tree stands? I like the ladders because you don't have to haul them in and out of the woods, but both my climbers are more comfortable than my ladder stand.

ilhnter
Re: tree stands? I'm not a big fan of climbers. I use and like Lock ons and ladder stands. I use both and like both.
Rhino
Re: tree stands? My preference is hang on stands and the most comfortable ones I can find too. Fortunately I don't have a problem with stand theft like many of you do. If I did, my preference would shift to a climber.
ildrhntr
Re: tree stands? I used to love portable stands but after using climbers for the past 5 years I am hooked. Not only can I take my stand out of the woods everyday because there are people with sticky fingers where I hunt but it also allows me to keep a good spot a secret. GWSmith
Re: tree stands? When hunting public land for me theres only one real alternative...Climbing stand. Like many others I've had stands stolen before so a Lock-on or Ladderstand is not feasable. What I like the most about any stand is not having to deal with it the morning of a hunt. I like getting to a standsite as quickly as possible without sweating. All the packing it in and setting it up makes more noise than I would like not to mention climbing. I like being able to walk-in and climb into a Lock-on or Ladderstand...the 16' Ladderstand I have is the most comfortable one I own out of 3 types of stands. The Lock-on stands are better for me when bowhunting because I feel less restricted in one when attempting to shoot to my right side and I stay closer to the tree when standing often using the tree for cover. Chrud
Re: tree stands? Hang-on stands are my favorite. Ladderstands are ok for bow hunting, but I like them for gun hunting. I don't use a climber very often.
Guest huntwriter
Re: tree stands? For me it depends on the situation what type of stand I use. I would say that I use climbing and hang-on-stands equally. However on short hunting trips with little time to scout I prefer a climbing stand for portability and the ability to set up and hunt right away. I use hang on stands on well-scouted places where I can hang them well in advance and let them settle down. I have one ladder stand that I have used one or two times on a tree that would not let me hang a stand or use a climber.
Guest generallee
Re: tree stands? My climber is by far the most comfortable stand i have, but its not always pleasant to climb during the early season in that GA heat. When bow season starts in GA, its still feels like summer. slughunter
Re: tree stands? although we have alot of homemade treestands I do like to hunt from hangons because they are a little more safe. like one of our tree stands that is home made is the old porch from our house, we took it from our house when we build our new one and wedged it between 2 trees with a couple of nails, proble not to safe. -shane

Being 5'10" and 190 pounds I have all kinds of room, but I like the idea it has the weight capability up to 350 pounds. To me that means its built heavier. But the deluxe straps are a MUST!!! They do make a world of difference packing it in!!!
