Re: how high?????

Same here too.

However I have 1 stand that needs to go higher.

Every year I get busted by a certain doe, I am sure of it. And every summer I look at the stand from the ground and convince myself its good.

Well again this year I got busted. No way a "normal" deer would bust me and I see plenty from the stand believe me.

Its just this one old girl.

Next year I am going about 8 to 10 feet higher to a fork in the tree. Its the perfect tree and moving it to another would kill one shooting lane or the other on distance... Got to go higher.

However I like 18 to 20 feet so going 25 to 30 may be weird. I will of coarse practice for this height change but still. It will be weird but its getting personal....

Good Luck to you!

Re: how high?????

Mine is at about 17 feet now so I figure if I can get my body up to the forked out branch 10 feet higher then it will break up my outline better and get the stand off the "line of sight" a bit more.

Its a gradual sloping log road intersection with the stand in the fork of the log roads with a nice knoll behind it. Perfect funnel to and from my lower clover fields...

The stand is set within a two truck tree already with the trees only 18" apart where I'm at now, but no branches or other cover.

Dang doe saw me at over 60 yards threw thick sapplings from up wind so I know she knows to look at the stand before bringing her fawns up.

For 3 years now we have danced this dance... LOL

I'll get her next fall.... I hope...

She's 4.5 years old by then... Should be a monster too...

Here in Kanas the trees aren't really suited for climbers. We go 20' if possible with lock ons, 12-15 with ladders and whereever we've got good cover we'll build permanent stands.

Re: how high?????

I usually go 23-25 feet up in the trees. Like it has been mentioned before, cover is much a dictating factor. The higher you go, the further away the deer needs to be for the same angle to occur if you were lower. After hunting high, its tough to get down to 15 feet and get away with much. I hunt as high as i can go with still being able to get a high percentage double lung shot.
