Durn 460...

This thing is driving me up the wall... mad.gif

I've been testing different loads trying to find one that'll hold 3" at 250yds. I can touch bullet holes at 100yds but the groups go straight south at the longer distance. I'm getting 8-10" patterns at 250 right now. I've been struggling with the rest I'd been using.

I fixed the rest problem today. Picked up a couple new bags that should offer the support that's needed. Then off to the Home Depot for some lumber and hardware.

Here's what I came up with...

If the weather holds, I'll get back out tomorrow morning. Gonna be interesting to see if the finish holds up to the cylinder gap blast the 460 dishes out...

Wow!

Thats a really nice job on that rest Charlie!

I hear ya on the muzzle blast.

I found out the hard way to not use my carpet table cover in front of mine.

I melted it the last time out. LOL

Good luck on the 250yard groups.

I know you'll get it soon..

Re: Durn 460...

Let me see if I understand you correctly............

8"-10" groups at 250 yards with a straight walled cartridge.....200 grain bullet.........8" barrel........and a loose nut on the trigger.......I'd almost call that acceptable.

Just exactly what is your goal? 6"...4"...2"

You Da' Man............ let me know what you come up with so that I don't have to go through 250 round to dial mine in.

Nice job on the rest...............not half bad for a "fitter"

Have a nice day

Re: Durn 460...

Good lookin' setup ya got there, Gunnr!! Hopefully that'll get you where you wanna be "out there". Were you getting clean punches at 250 yds?? What was the wind condition. I suspect that gun will eventually go 2" at 250.

Your .375 Winchester is straight-walled & shoots a 200 gr. ball. 2" would definitely not be out of the question for it with proper optics.

Re: Durn 460...

Well, it looks like we've turned a corner with this gun. Using this rest I was able to cut my groups down to 5-6" at 250. I believe with a little further load development the groups may get down to the 3" I'm wanting.

Now here's something that'll apeal to a professional wood butcher like JJL...

To protect the rest from the cylinder blow by I tied a nail apron around it. Worked like a charm. I will eventually make up a leather version when time permits.

The bullet holes were clean and round. There was no wind during this range session.

The 375 is next on the list after this thing gets dialed in.
