need2hunt
Heres a pic of the main plot before we disced and seeded it... Here it is now almost 1 month later... The plot is made up of a mix of grain sorgum and corn, which seems to be growing well. On the far side there is a path that goes back around a tree and rasberry bushes, I planted some of the turnip seeds that I got from my good friend from Ohio - Tominator around the path and in front. They dont get a whole lot of light but they are still doing ok. Pic looking out to plot on left... Pic looking into path from left... Pic looking out to plot on right... I did find where the deer have been chomping off the end of the leaves of the corn and sorgum, but the best sign was when we were driving home we saw 3 deer going down the neighbors fenceline to my dads - seeing deer, that's always a good thing. The other plot is comingg up but I didn't get it cleared as good before we disced it. So while there is the sorgum and corn coming up, I am also seeing alot of grass and horse weeds to. Overall I'm really happy. Are these the perfect plot, probably not, but when I look and see that the reality was very close to not even having anything put in this year I'm more than satisfied. And I'm already thinking about how many pheasants I'm going to blast out of there this season as a bonus, well it just brings a smile to my face

Tominator
Re: Plot Progress (pics) Very good Mr. Smoot! Glad you could make use of that seed. How's the popcorn doing? You know, looking back, you didn't do too bad on that Illinios trip. Thanks to those Ohio boys you got a world famous secret jerky recipe and a mess of turnip seed. need2hunt
Re: Plot Progress (pics) Ya I made out pretty good on that deal Watermelon and pumpkins are growing nicely, however the popcorn didn't get planted. Dad was worried about it cross-whatevering with his sweatcorn if we planted at the farm. the other place we were going to plant it is where the neighbors shed is on my property, she told me she was going to move it to her side of the line and it just hasn't happened yet. Looks like I'll have to try it next year. We had a ton more rain last night that will help the plot out. The old saying of "knee high by 4th of July" is right about where the plot is, however the farmers around here are going to have a great crop this year as most corn fields are already at least chest high if not higher. Tominator
Re: Plot Progress (pics) [ QUOTE ] Watermelon and pumpkins are growing nicely, however the popcorn didn't get planted. Dad was worried about it cross-whatevering with his sweatcorn [/ QUOTE ] Cool. Yeah, your dad is worrying about cross pollination. That popcorn is not a hybrid, so he doesn't have to worry too much, unless his sweetcorn is a hybrid, in that case, just plant the popcorn about 100 yards away, and you're good to go. That seed should be viable for a long time. The first plot I planted with that stuff was 5 year old seed, and it came up fine. My highest corn plot is my Silver Queen which is approaching 4 feet tall now.
