What Percent?

Re: What Percent?

Hi Cory, I'm only speaking of the properties that I hunt, but I'm seeing deer that have about 70-80% of antler growth completed. I think the next two months growth slows down as far as mass, but speeds as far as maturing the tissue into bone before shedding velvet in early Sept. Thats just for here in PA though... I'm not too sure about growth schedules elsewhere or if they even differ at all.

Re: What Percent?

I bumped one out of my field the other day that was about 50% I'd say. But, I have seen a few that look to be around 70 to 80% already. I think they shed their velvet in the first couple of weeks in September, so they presumably have 2 months of growing left to do.

Re: What Percent?

I'd like to take a guess but it would be all for naught.

There are too many variables. Could be 10% could be 40%+.

Age is a factor, genetics is as well and so is nutrition and that is a whole topic by itself. Pending your season is stable as hopefully it has been and with lots of rain with no drought, if you're looking at a possible monster I bet he'll be there when he sheds.
