Gun Selections

I am entering a contest where the grand prize is a selection of 17 guns of my choice encompassing rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, and black powder. I have made my selections but wanted to get some feedback before I submit so I am posting in the each of the Guns & Ammo forums.

For reference, I currently own a Remington 870 12gauge pump shotgun, Traditions Sidelock 50cal black powder rifle, a Ruger GP161 357 magnum revolver, and a Springfield Armory XD SC 40S&W.

Below are the selections with my choices in bold.

Rifles:

Charles Daly Superior in .22 Hornet

Harrington & Richardson Ultra Varmint Rifle in .223

Hi-Point Carbine in 9mm

Kimber Model 84M in .243

Marlin Model 336C Lever-Action Carbine in .30-30

Navy Arms 1892 Rifle in .45 Colt

Remington Model 7400 Auto Rifle in .30-06

Remington Model 710 Bolt-Actino in .270

Ruger Deerfield 99/44 Carbine in .44 Mag

Ruger M77 Mark II in .25-06

Savage Model 111F Classic Hunter in .30-06

Re: Gun Selections

Harv. I have heard nothing but negative about the 710. They just seem to be low quality especially from rem. The ruger 77 is a far superior gun and 25 06 is a sweet flat shooting round. I have the ruger in .243 and love it but would trade for the 25 in a heartbeat. I have a rem 700 too but have heard that the 710 is nothing like it.

Re: Gun Selections

Harv, the 710 has had some recall issues and have heard some negative about them. From what I have heard it is nothing more than a cheap wanna be immitation off the 700. I personally have never shot one of these rifles though, so I am just going by what I have heard.

Re: Gun Selections

I own a Gun Store (Powder and Shells, Inc.) and have sold some package 710's. The 710 is probably the lowest quality bolt gun of the bunch. I would rate the savage a little better. I would rate the Ruger three times better and the Kimber 3 times better than the Ruger. Kimber is as close to a custom gun as you can get off the shelf (I would rate Sako in that category as well). But, hey any gun that's free is a great gun....can't go wrong.
