HarvDog
I am entering a contest where the grand prize is a selection of 17 guns of my choice encompassing rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, and black powder. I have made my selections but wanted to get some feedback before I submit so I am posting in the each of the Guns & Ammo forums. For reference, I currently own a Remington 870 12gauge pump shotgun, Traditions Sidelock 50cal black powder rifle, a Ruger GP161 357 magnum revolver, and a Springfield Armory XD SC 40S&W. Below are the selections with my choices in bold. Black Powder: Knight Disc In-Line rifle in .50 Thompson/Center Omega rifle in .45 Ruger Old Army Percussion Revolver in .

Guest 150_Class
Re: Gun Selections Because it is a .50, I would take the Knight.
johnf
Re: Gun Selections Around here the 45cal stuff is hard to come by. If it's not where you're at, I think you made the best choice. I've heard the 45's are somewhat more accurate downrange. That would be a big + not to metntion a lot less bang on the shoulder.
bowana
Re: Gun Selections The Knight Rifle hands down. The DISC in .50 will still have enough down range energy at 200 meters to harvest a whitetail (with 3 pellets of powder) the .45 does not posess enough energy for a human kill (yea, its possible but tough). The Knight is a better quality gun than the Omega (my opinion). I own a Knight long range hunter and a Thompson Encore. Each one has pros (very little Cons). AJ
Re: Gun Selections Either the .45 cal Omega or the .50 cal Knight will work just fine for you. The .45 will kill any deer in this country out past 200 yards if the shooter can put the bullet in the vitals. Both guns are of decent quality.
