Strut_Buster
I would go with the Browning Gold or the Wincherser Super x2. Same gun but with out speed load. I've heard some good about the 935, but more bad. Dosen't cycle light shells but that ain't a problem for goose and turkey loads.
robk
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? mossberg 835 and the 1187 might be another to look at also you can look at the bennelli or barretta and there are many others you can consider and the camo is looking good on most of the guns out there today robk

njbowhntr
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? Personally I would stay away from the Mossberg 935. I have not heard a good review about that gun yet. I picked up the 11-87 Super Mag. I love those Remingtons. Will cycle any round you put through it. For your 2 3/4" low brass you just have to add an extra gas seal to the tube, which they supply. LifeNRA
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? I own Browning shotguns, I would pick the Gold any day of the week. But if I was low on cash, I would also buy the 935 too!!!

I've had it since they first came out. It will shoot and cycle 7/8 oz. "el-junko" low brass as well as it will a 3 1/2" magnum. Oh yeah...........and I have yet to clean the mechanism. It's just a fantastic piece of weaponry.
Guest 2500HD
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? SX2 is the only gun you will need. I hunt with a lot of guys and see a lot of guns have problems in the field but have only seen one SX2 malfunction so far and that guy treats all his guns rough like thay are 870's. You can't go wrong with the SX2!
johnf
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? 11-87 If you want cheap there is a Charles Daly you can get at Wal-Mart for $299. I've heard mixed reviews on them.

lil hunter
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? I would have to say the 11-87 also. i've never had a problem with any of my remingtons. I have heard a lot of bad about the new 935 mossberg. It's a new gun, give it a couple years then it'll probably be better.
Strut10
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? [ QUOTE ] I've got an SX2 and I love it but I don't know if you could find one under $700 [/ QUOTE ] Shop around. I got mine for under $700. That was a few years back. But I think you could probably still get one for around the same price.
Guest 2500HD
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? Bought my SX2 last year for $638 out the door. Gun was $650 and had a $50 rebate. Add $38 for tax and there you go.

Strut_Buster
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? I have always hated remingotn shotguns. The 870 is a good shotgun, but its kinda outdated. I think remington should try to improve the design a little bit. My dad has an 1100 thats sits in the gun case all year except to shoot clays cause We have had that jam so many times goose hunting. But our Benelli SBE is great and so is our SX2. Had those out every saturday before pratice in rain and cold and never had a failure with hours upon hours of hunting. My buddy mike even had his 1100 jam this year on november 13 after one shot. Then theres me and cody pluggin away with my Sx2 and his browning gold. I dunno, its a prefrence thng for me i guess. I love my foreign shotguns. They make the best.. period
strubedog
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? Balance sucks, they are barrel heavy for 1. 2 my pump would jam and know others that jam (pumps) 3 the newer ones (autos) break fairly often. When people have to carry o rings at all times and gun dealers put replacement parts out on the floor because they need replacement fairly often that is a bad sign. When a gunsmith lists in the price of their services polishing and honing parts/cone of 870's that is a sign because they get that many requests for that service. Watching some of the national shooting games I didn't see any remington autos. That tells me that people can't rely on the auto when prize money is on the line. The only reason it jams, is when I short-stroke it, which has happened only once in 3 years.

Granted the one pipers are not the most popular choice for trap shooting, but the most popular semi for trap is the 1100.
too_pointer
Re: WHICH SEMI -AUTO??? I would believe there are probably more Rem. 1100 and 11-87's out there than any other make. I have duck hunted for years in any kind of miserable weather you can think of. I just didn't have the jamming problems you talk of. I also was shooting my reloads with some pretty nasty looking casing LOL. One thing I did was to always keep the action as clean as possible, which means I would pull all the guts out of it frequently, and used oil or grease very sparingly, the problems alot of hunters have is overlubing the action parts, and besides collecting more crap, they would gel up in the cold and not work freely. I know Browning and some of the others make great semi's these days, but I still wouldn't have a problem taking a 1100 or 11-87 in the field if it is properly care for. I have one of each and they work just fine. I agree with you, the looks haven't changed much over the years, but they have a loyal fan group of hunters, like myself, who really don't care about the looks as much as how they perform As for pricing, they also have stayed very competitive, I would hate to have to plunk down $1,000 or more, for a pretty gun I would probably trash while out hunting. I have also switched over to a 26" barrell, and that did help much with the balance. too_pointer

Granted the one pipers are not the most popular choice for trap shooting, but the most popular semi for trap is the 1100 [/ QUOTE ] Honestly, trap is an old sport where there weren't many other choices out there at the time. Check with people that need reliability in the field and remington is at the bottom of the list on any waterfowl website. Talk to the guides, they will tell you remingtons are tops on the lists for breaking. I suppose if you are at a shoot with a gunsmith or can do your own work a gun breaking isn't a big deal but if you are driving an hour, spending time in the boat, setting out decoys etc... YOU NEED RELIABILTY, NUFF SAID There is a lot less work done on the italian guns then their american counterpart. Only some of the upper service places even advertise the work ie.. cole Remington is however like a chevy or ford guy. Why did a couple of my friends by remingtons, because their dads used them etc... My buddies didn't even shoulder different guns to see fit, balance etc... This is partly why there are a ton of remingtons. Hence old sport of trap is mainly remingtons for autos and why clays, skeet etc... are berettas. If you like your gun(s) that is awesome. I am just offering up an opinion just like anyone else.
