Strange fish/frog eggs???

Sorry, I don't have a pic, will try to get one. But I have been seeing a lot of strange "balloons" in the waters around here lately. They are huge. They are firm, but slimy. Brown with white star shapes on the outside. They are attached to logs or weeds.

Anyone ever see this before?

I emailed the FWC about it and am waiting for an answer. Someone said it was crappie eggs. But I've never heard of a fish making an egg "sack"----especially this big.

And frog eggs resemble strings of snot.

I am completely baffled. confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif

AHA!!!!!!!!!!!

Got the answer from the FWC. It's not eggs at all!!! It's something called freshwater bryozoa.

Here's the link to the pic and info. (Very interesting!!!) The first picture shown is what I have been seeing. wink.gif

I was trolling for walleye when my crankbait hooked into a branch. It was light enough so I reeled it up and one of those things was on the branch...it freaked me out to say the least. It was the first and only one I've seen.

Yeah, they're pretty common in lakes around here.

I knew this biology degree would pay off eventually. tongue.gif
