superguide
Was bored the other day so I watched half of a FIFA world cup soccer game. I'd heard there had been some reffing controversy-here's an idea the next guy who drops like a gutshot sparrow gets a red card. If I want to watch a bunch of guys faking pain there's the WWF. The soccer players are phenomenal athletes but the constant embellishing ruins the sport.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Soccer/WWF All I know is I hope it gets over soon, ESPN is showing way too many soccer highlights in the beginning of each broadcast!! Rather watch Lifetime for Women than soccer highlights!! LMAO!!!

maddhunter
Re: Soccer/WWF Ya it's gotten to the point where it's too much, but some people like it. And as far as fakeing the pain, untill you have played PRO soccer I wouldn't badger them, it's kinda like hockey without the pads. Oh and it's the WWE anyhow. arrow32
Re: Soccer/WWF Faking doesnt bother me a bit. I love soccer. Its all the dang cards these refs are throwing half of them should be warnings. But its there choice not mine.
jdickey
Re: Soccer/WWF YEAH... BUDDY.... the U.S. is the ONLY country in the world where people sit for three hours GOING NUTS over a bunch of car drivers going around in a circle.....! Speaking of fake injuries and "dives"... you mean you didn't watch the NBA finals? Soccer (football) is the ONLY sport in the world where entire countries will literally stop what they are doing for 90 minutes to watch THEIR team play. Oh well... here in the U.S. it's simple pleasures..... yadda .... yadda.... yadda!
tp793
Re: Soccer/WWF I'm with jdickey on this one. The diving is getting to a point where something needs to be done, but until you play the game at an actual competitive level you have no idea whats acting and whats real. It looks lie everything is fake at pace on TV, but I guarantee those guys go back to the hotel and ice all night long.
superguide
Re: Soccer/WWF They could give the yellow card to the diver or send him off the field for a few minutes-it's great theatre for sure.
jdickey
Re: Soccer/WWF [ QUOTE ] They could give the yellow card to the diver or send him off the field for a few minutes-it's great theatre for sure. [/ QUOTE ] The ref's do have that option... they enforce it quite a bit in the English Premier League.... and if it were done more often in the other leagues, it might reduce it ... but it will never eliminate it. I think the Italian league has some of the best actors in soccer! Be interesting to see how good of an acting job they will do on Sunday against France! Vive la France! dogdoc
Re: Soccer/WWF heck--i don't even know what the cards mean. The only part I enjoy about soccer is the shoot out at the end of OT.
SaskMan
Re: Soccer/WWF The soccer itself isn't as entertaining to me as the fans. They're freakin' nuts!!! The fans themselves make it alright in my books. lol
BowJoe
Re: Soccer/WWF I was never around soccer except for PE and that was just for fun. Besides, NASCAR isn't the only racing in the world. Where do you think F1 is? Mostly in Europe. At least in NASCAR people talk to where I can understand them and not from 55 other countries. jgbennett6
Re: Soccer/WWF Haahahaha, well yeah its acting and annoying, but if you dont like it, change it over to Speed channel or RFD tv. ... typical narrow minded Americans. This happens once every 4 years, so deal with it for a few weeks. I get sick of watching over payed Steroid hopped up rap stars put on 40- lbs of pads and then take breaks every play so they can catch their breath

superguide
Re: Soccer/WWF Well the French guy sure peed in his cornflakes during extra time-too bad they jusyt don't play till somebody scores-penalty kicks are ok during league play but suck in the final game. Glad hockey did away with the shoot out during the playoffs.

Glad hockey did away with the shoot out during the playoffs. [/ QUOTE ] I've never been a fan of soccer until this year. I started watching a few of the games, and got caught up with the whole tourny. I was really disappointed to see they let the final game come down to the free kicks like that. Doesn't seem like the way a World Championship should be won.
jgbennett6
Re: Soccer/WWF In lower level games In some area's they actually have done away with PK's and they play short 5 min. halfs where they remove 1 player from each side until someone scores... golden goal............ p.s. ecw.....ewc...?????? what the ?
