clayman
We had an overly mature green ash in our yard that had to come down. Because of its proximity to the house and garage and the electric lines to the house, it wasn't a job I was going to undertake myself, so we hired a professional tree service. Got several bids and selected the company to do the work. Last week when we gave them the go ahead, the consultant said it would be done in the next week or two. I got home from work yesterday and to my surprise the old tree was gone. From what I understand the whole process was completed in about an hour with Just one small divot in the yard, a dusting of saw dust, and a big ol' stump (to be grinded out soon) being the only sign the arborists left behind. I can honestly say I'm glad we hired someone to do this job! Talk about a huge void in the yard. It's amazing how much shade that tree provided. Unfortunately it was in real rough shape and every arborist we talked to said it was a good time to get it down before it got any worse and caused us some major property damage. I already miss the shade that that tree provided, but I won't miss cleaning up all the dead branches it shed every time the wind blew, and I won't have to worry anymore whenever a storm blows through. Not sure if we're going to plant a new tree in its place yet or not. But it's going to take some getting used to not having it there anymore. MCH
Re: Tree Removal Worked in the tree trimming business for about 12 years. Most one tree jobs could be done in half a day. Every now and then we'd get a red oak that was 8 foot through and it would take us a couple of days, but most of it was in and out. BTW--the lines to your house aren't bad. The two that run from transformer to transformer are the ones you need to worry about. Laid a limb on those bad boys one time and about soiled my britches...:girn:
Guest Andrea
Re: Tree Removal We just removed 2 trees in order to build our house. One was a china berry tree. I miss it too. I know a lot of people don't like them because they can get messy, but they are beautiful to me. My husband's grandmother had a giant china berry tree in her back yard. It looked like a humongous umbrella. She lost it when hurricane Ivan blew thru.
too_pointer
Re: Tree Removal We had to remove a huge maple tree in our front yard also due to a storm that laid it over. I'm like you, didn't think of the shade till it was gone We just planted 2 new trees back in the front, I think they are some sort of crabapple that turns colors ?? too_
Tominator
Re: Tree Removal A buddy and I took out 4 pretty good sized trees back in the winter. 3 of them were probably 40 feet tall, the oak was about 20. Luckily they were all in really open places, I was only worried about one of them. A bunch of guys, and a bunch of chainsaws and that work goes pretty quick. Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Tree Removal That is the way it is supposed to happen. Depending on the price to grind the stump it may be cheaper to literally dig it out. It can be dug out in about 20 minutes tops with a small excavator that you can rent. Then you just need a small dump truck with some topsoil. If you dig the hole large enough you can simply flip the stump over, roots facing up and then add the topsoil to dress the top. Good luck
wtnhunt
Re: Tree Removal Have never had to pay a professional, but have a huge old oak at the end of our drive way, that may eventually need some professional work done. Have dropped a few large trees around here over the years. Had a hickory that was about 80 feet tall that had to go for our power lines to be run, that was not too bad. Have cut a few that were bigger than the bar on my stihl, really dont like those types of cuts.
