Re: imperial whitetail brand CLOVER help?

For optimum results you should really prep your ground with roundup, disc, roundup again 2 weeks later, then sow. Clover doesn't need too much cover, so don't plant it too deep.

Other guys will tell you to get a soil sample and lime too.

Planting now would be risky due to the general lack of rain we get now. You might want to wait till August. That will give you time to prep the ground too.

Quarter inch deep in a firm seed bed for optimum results with clovers and as Tominator has said, uyou really need to do your prep work, or you are really just wasting your time and money.

Proper prep work, you should check your soils ph and lime accordingly. As Chris said, you would need to disc or til, tilling would be better if you have access to a tiller. Would most definitely suggest removing all weeds with roundup, then applying a follow up of roundup a week later.

At planting I like to use a drag to cover my clovers, I also fertilize at planting.

Re: imperial whitetail brand CLOVER help?

A drag is a piece of equipment or something used to drag the soil over the seed. I use a home made chain link drag that has heavy round tubing at the front and back.

Differences between tilling and discing are pretty substantial, however a disc acn be used with good results. A disc will break up the soil and loosen it, a tiller will pulverize the soil as it loosens it.

Sow or broadcast the seed, it to spread the seed.

If I were you I would definitely get your prep work started soon, and wait til fall for a planting. Summer is not the best time for planting clovers, at least not here.

Round up is inexpensive & easy to find at Wal Mart, if you buy the concentrate its like 25$.

If you plan to actually "hunt" over this plot you probably won't have alot of success being that you're in ND & you're planting it so late. I have the Imperial video on how to plant this exact product & they tell you on the video you probably won't see any substantial growth with a perennial like this until next spring.

It sounds like you're confused and rushed. If you want a plot to actually hunt over for this upcoming season its several fast growing "annuals" you could plant to attract deer & give them nutrion at the same time. You could plant an annual then give yourself time next spring to properly plant a perennial clover like this.

Re: imperial whitetail brand CLOVER help?

if you just want an attractive plot with no maintenance just plant you a nice plot of winter wheat. Much more attractive in the winter than clover (IMO)--and much cheaper. Heck--it takes clover a good 2 months to get enough forage for the deer--wheat will start attracting 14 days after germination with proper moisture.

Stick to winter wheat...you don't need to bother with clover. Takes a few years for a spike to become a 30 pointer...

Also...use roundup at 2 quarts/acre and use a minimum of 15 gallons of water with that...I would also recommend a surfactant, or crop oil, to be in the roundup mix...helps it do it's job.

Re: imperial whitetail brand CLOVER help?

late summer--probably first or second week of August for you.

Plant and fertilize with 200# of triple 13 at time of planting (per acre). Then about a week or two prior to bow season broadcast 50# of 34-0-0. The high nitrogen right before season will "sweeten" the wheat and make it HIGHLY attractive.
