spyderpancake
Re: .17\'s yeah, definitely take a good look at the Marlin or Savage. I bought my Marlin 917V for $170 and have been thrilled with it.

Guest fishermanwhohunts
Re: .17\'s I like Ruger bolt actions. They are awsome!!! I have a Ruger 77/22 which is a .22 LR and it is super accurate. My uncle has a 77/17 that can't be beat. They are awsome guns.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: .17\'s It all depends what you want out of the gun. I was dead set on a Savage last year and then I got talked into shouldering a single shot NEF. After much research and lack of sleep, I bought the NEF in .17hmr. A year later, absolutely NO regrets. That thing is a tack driving wood chuck killing machine. I was leary with going to a single shot, but the thing is so dead accurate there is no need for a follow up shot from a bolt action. I feel I bought a better gun and spent A LOT less. Heck the scope cost more than the gun!
David_218
Re: .17\'s Any of the .17 Rimfires are just a little too destructive on Small Game intended for the table. I'd stick to the .22 LR, as it is much cheaper, will be around forever, and far less destructive than the .17's. Just my opinion though. iron buck
Re: .17\'s I'll second the vote for the Ruger. I have a 77/22 that is just plain accurate. Very fun to shoot & great practice. They make it in a 17 as well. The plain 22LR is MUCH cheaper to shoot. I have mine for practice & varmint control around the house. I have had no problem dusting coons & groundhogs out to 100 yards with a bit of hold over. The 17 would shoot flatter.........but the ammo costs WAY more. JUst something else to consider. Guest fishermanwhohunts
Re: .17\'s CCI makes a 20 grain .17 HMR FMJ now. I know it's way less destructive on potatoes and generic pop. My uncle did say that you should shoot small game in the head no matter what caliber you are using.
Guest PAdeerdreamer
Re: .17\'s I have a marlin and my father has a ruger. It doesn't matter witch gun at 150yards we will shoot anything in the head.Even a dime.

To be honest I've never seeen them for sale.

too_pointer
Re: .17\'s I'm in the market to pick one up. I would prefer the .22 that is built out of the .22 mag. Thats just me, I'm sure the one that is built out of the .22 lf is fine, I just read so much about the .17 mag, that makes more sence. too_
