I also think the winning team from last year should stay the same and see if they can defend their title to.

I STILL THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!

Re: 2006 deer contest????

Ah yeah Ryan whatever, guess need2hunt could keep only your team assembled. Hope this thread does not come across as too much whining. Our team finished second in last years contest, and one of our members I dont think has ever returned. Seems he was unable to properly get a photo of his tag.

If the contest is going to be a rt "forums member contest" then it needs to consist of active members, jmho.

I want a 50 or 100 post minimum for people to play this year. After having two no-shows on my turkey team it can be very frustrating!

I don't know if I completely agree with this. Yes there should be some way to try and weed out the no shows I do agree with that, but I think there is probably a better way. Because one the forum gets new people all the time so that would keep them from entering if they wanted to. Also I am sure there are more like me that frequent the forum but don't post a whole lot. Another idea to use to help weed out the one time wonders that I have saw is to have a 2 phase sign up.

Re: 2006 deer contest????

I gotta say need2hunt has done a great job spreading the slackers around. 2 years ago we had a slacker on our team that only had 1 post and that was to sign up for the contest. He never showed up again. Even with 1 slacker our team still won the 1st year's deer contest. Makes you wonder if the slaker even got his prize for being part of our team.

I'm not opposed to seeing a minimum post count of some kind for participants as long as we continue to spread the lower post count participants around all the teams.

As far as keeping any team from last year intact for any reason, I'm for keeping things the way they have been. This isn't the Superbowl or the World Series of deer hunting. This is a friendly contest created to add some more fun to deer season and promote sharing our deer hunting experiences with one another.

I agree...The point is that you yourself enjoy the competition without regard to what someone else does. We all Win when we Hunt!!!

There have been teams where people with many posts did not get a deer to contribute to the teams score...but they had the fun of being part of a team.

Whats the difference between them and a No Show?

Maybe it got them out in the woods hunting just one more day than they would have otherwise.

IMHO...Thats the point of this whole thing in the first place.

Let the only exclusion be those who dont make the entry date be the only way that someone cant be a part of it...and you'll Include everyone who wants to be part of something special.

Give everyone who makes the entry deadline the chance to say "I'm part of a Team in the Realtree Deer Hunting Contest"

Re: 2006 deer contest????

I think the 2 Phase signup has some merit but I'm against excluding people with a minimum post count.

People interested will participate and those who are not wont. Post counts wont indicate what someone will choose to do in the contest itself.

If they respond to a 2 phase signup it would show more than just a passing interest....but it still wont gaurantee participation.

OK, sorry Ryan.

An interesting idea still, but I am kind of thinking maybe it needs to stay as simple as possible for need2hunt.

But still, if you let whoever just sign-up then they never show up again, it is not fair to that team and they will for sure not have a chance of even coming close to winning. Sure, the contest should be more about fun, but each year, I have a bunch of people on my team that don't ever show up again and it is frustrating to be one of only a couple people active on a team. Just another of my 2 cents.

Re: 2006 deer contest????

Like I said in here somewhere before we need to have a "FORUM MEMBER" contest. Sure newbies should be allowed to enter, but some seem to have no intentions of sticking around and after the initial post they make to get on a team, noone ever sees them in here ever again, real bummer for some teams.

Kind of like the idea of the two stage sign up, but dont know how complicated that would make it for need2hunt, if he is even willing to take this on again this year. Too bad the sign up could not also somehow include an acceptance of sorts that the person signing has read and understands the rules. Seems most of the problems with entries that were not accepted were also by new members.

Re: 2006 deer contest????

Maybe for newbies who sign up, they can only sign-up if they've been a member for a certain amount of time for example "If you have at least ? number of posts and have been registered since 2004" or something like that. I dunno just an idea but I hope N2H can do this contest again, he does an awesome job of it!

Of course there are other circumstances besides the "no shows" that hurt a team's chances of winning. And I'll point the finger squarely at myself. I'm strictly hunting mature bucks, so the odds of my contributing anything besides a doe are pretty slim. Last year I saw 4 or 5 different 140 class 10 points, but there was no way I was going to shoot one because none were old enough. And it will be the same way again this year. If it's not a trophy to me, I just won't shoot it and the team will suffer because of that decision. So let me apologize in advance to my future team members for my choice, but I can guarantee you that I will spend my share of hours in the woods and I will enjoy every minute of it.

And who knows, I might just hit that 9th inning grand slam and win the ballgame! grin.gif

Re: 2006 deer contest????

Hey what about pairing post ounts to team memebrs

LIke sasy if you have over 3000 posts you have to be to whoever is closest to your post at a certain date

so all team memebrs if there are 6 or seven team members they all will be close to 3000 and so and so on. This way newbies will be paired with newbies and all is fair, well kinda i guess...just a thought

Re: 2006 deer contest????

I think it should run just like last year. I didn't win, but had a great time. This contest is just for fun and didn't cost anything to enter, right? I had fun and got to meet some different guys/gals.

Did the winners get a new 4 wheeler or date with Tiffany? If not, I'm not losing sleep over winning or losing.

Fun and simple should be the name of the game.

Again, just my opinion and I'm probably wrong. smirk.gif
