Dakota
I don't know if we've done it before, but if we havn't I think it'd be fun to do. Who's up for it? Dakota
slughunter
Re: 2006 elk contest? I would be game for It but I only got a cow tag, any bull can beat that. -shane
OJR
Re: 2006 elk contest? If I do go for an elk, it is going to be on a depredation tag and we can only shoot cows! If I don't get the draw for that, then I am not going to hunt elk!
Guest andymansavage
Re: 2006 elk contest? I'm in....feelin lucky this year. got a private farm to hunt that has been limited entry for years but just opened up to general tags, we've seen some nice (370) bulls there in the past few years. Dakota
Re: 2006 elk contest? Well, for those of you w/ bull tags, how many of you want to do it? The largest Boone and Crockett bull wins it. Maybe there should be a separate contest for archers. What do you all think? And since there aren't too many of us, we should pro'ly have no teams, just individuals. It all depends. If we have a lot more hunters we might be able to have teams. whitetailtrax
Re: 2006 elk contest? I'm in! I'm more likely to shoot one with my bow, so maybe we should do a winner based on P&Y score and another for B&C.
Guest andymansavage
Re: 2006 elk contest? Muzzleloader here. I think that it should be the same rules and scores for everyone as bowhunters have the luxury of hunting during the rut. I'll be hunting spooked bulls in november myself. Dakota
Re: 2006 elk contest? It's settled then, largest bull wins it! What should the prize be? One of us could always buy a good elk call and have that up for the prize? Dakota
slughunter
Re: 2006 elk contest? I might be able to get my hands on a bull tag, so I might be in. I have to get a hold of the CO DNR and see what they have for left overs. -shane
_MD_
Re: 2006 elk contest? This sounds like fun, eventhough I have been in a big bull drought. Shane CO sells OTC bull tags in several archery units.
8ptbuckpa
Re: 2006 elk contest? I would love to do it but getting drawed is a different story our draw in Pa is not until sept. for the nov. hunt but I would do archery if drawn and many guys will use rifles then. I think split divisions
Guest andymansavage
Re: 2006 elk contest? Yeah, every state is different, so we should do one P&Y winner and one B&C winner. As far as prizes, I would be willing to throw in something, maybe a hoochie mama? (the elk call of course) Andy

slughunter
Re: 2006 elk contest? I think that if we get enough people to enter we should have small group 2-4. If we do have groups we should do it like the deer contest, have cows worth certain points and then bulls worth the same plus the number of points they have or a cow worth something and then the bulls are worth that plus there B&C or P&Y score. I dont know, just brainstorming so then people with cow tags can be in it too -shane
Dakota
Re: 2006 elk contest? Good idea, Shane! We could have the cows worth 250 or something. Oh! Oh! Brainstorm! We could have a separate contest for cows. Heaviest cow wins it! Dakota
slughunter
Re: 2006 elk contest? thats an idea, but im not sure I would be able to weigh my cow If I shot one, dont have the stuff to do it. we would have the cows worth 250 and then the bulls are worth 250 plus there B&C Score, because then if we had one for cows thats just another thing to make prizes for and stuff, so if your good with it we can have a contest with both cow and bull together. Guest andymansavage
Re: 2006 elk contest? Weight would be very hard with elk. I quarter them where they lay myself. I will probably shoot a cow too but it would be hard to put them in a contest. Teams sound fun though and I'm sure there is a way to make it work. slughunter
Re: 2006 elk contest? In the morning Im going to try to get a hold of dakota and we can brainstorm some stuff for this because even if I dont get a bull tag I would just like to help put it together for everyone. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: 2006 elk contest? If you go with teams, you'll need to balance them. By that I mean 1 team should not be loaded up with guys that have a quality tag. The unit I hunt is an open area----another can buy a bull tag, the evening before the season. It's a 4 point bull or better. But they usaually don't make it past a raghorn. Fact is my best bull----300---would be passed on in a quality unit. But still I'll sign up. I agree that the heaviest--would be impossible. I'm miles back in & I skin & debone them----asap. I'm not packing out excess weight. elkhntnfool
Re: 2006 elk contest? I'd be up for it. Doing it by points like the deer contest would be the best I think as well.
