Re: 2006 elk contest?

I'm in....feelin lucky this year. got a private farm to hunt that has been limited entry for years but just opened up to general tags, we've seen some nice (370) bulls there in the past few years.

Well, for those of you w/ bull tags, how many of you want to do it? The largest Boone and Crockett bull wins it. Maybe there should be a separate contest for archers. What do you all think? And since there aren't too many of us, we should pro'ly have no teams, just individuals. It all depends. If we have a lot more hunters we might be able to have teams.

Muzzleloader here. I think that it should be the same rules and scores for everyone as bowhunters have the luxury of hunting during the rut. I'll be hunting spooked bulls in november myself.

Yeah, every state is different, so we should do one P&Y winner and one B&C winner.

As far as prizes, I would be willing to throw in something, maybe a hoochie mama? (the elk call of course)

I think that if we get enough people to enter we should have small group 2-4. If we do have groups we should do it like the deer contest, have cows worth certain points and then bulls worth the same plus the number of points they have or a cow worth something and then the bulls are worth that plus there B&C or P&Y score. I dont know, just brainstorming so then people with cow tags can be in it too smile.gif

Re: 2006 elk contest?

thats an idea, but im not sure I would be able to weigh my cow If I shot one, dont have the stuff to do it. we would have the cows worth 250 and then the bulls are worth 250 plus there B&C Score, because then if we had one for cows thats just another thing to make prizes for and stuff, so if your good with it we can have a contest with both cow and bull together.

Weight would be very hard with elk. I quarter them where they lay myself. I will probably shoot a cow too but it would be hard to put them in a contest. Teams sound fun though and I'm sure there is a way to make it work.

If you go with teams, you'll need to balance them. By that I mean 1 team should not be loaded up with guys that have a quality tag. The unit I hunt is an open area----another can buy a bull tag, the evening before the season. It's a 4 point bull or better. But they usaually don't make it past a raghorn. Fact is my best bull----300---would be passed on in a quality unit.

But still I'll sign up.

I agree that the heaviest--would be impossible. I'm miles back in & I skin & debone them----asap. I'm not packing out excess weight. CB
