Re: How many deer have you harvested with your bow

I've been bowhunting since 2000 (I was 19 then) and I've let 5 arrows go and have taken 3 deer. First was a 174+" gross 9pt in 2000, second was an antlerless in '04, third was a 139+" gross 10pt in '05. The two shots I've missed were right at 30yds. I hope to add to the total this year with a good buck and a doe or two.

1 last year a little buck. A buddy talked me into buying a tag with a week left in the season. I have always been a die-hard waterfowl hunter. Its all I hunt in the fall. I bow hunt ever spring for turkeys but never gave deer a chance. But I really enjoyed deer hunting that week. Might have to try it again this fall if the waterfowl hunting gets slow.

10 pointer 3 does last year

10 pointer 2 does year before

8 point 8 does three years before

12 point 4 does four years ago

The deer above was with my compound bow

I have killed lots of deer with my Horton crossbow, been hunting for 20 years.

i feel the same myself Big_Buck_1.

i have yet to take a deer with my bow too. i have shot and hit a nice 8-point but i followed the blood trail forever but i didn't find him. and i passed on a big 4-point with a high and wide rack opening day last year. i didn't take him because it was opening day and i usually see bigger deer at my other hunting spot. but i didn't go there because i didn't really want to drive that far that day to hunt.

Re: How many deer have you harvested with your bow?

I honestly don't have a clue. Too many years bowhunting for deer now and I've never been a numbers guy. I started back in the 70's. I've been hunting the same place here at home now for 16 years and I've always killed at least a doe or 2 each year there. Before that I never hunted the same place for more than 3 or 4 years. If memory serves, I think the most deer I've killed in one season bowhunting was 7. The bag limits for deer here in Mississippi are pretty generous and they are more restrictive now than they used to be. My game plan going into each bow season here for the past 7 or 8 years has been to bag a couple (or so) does early for meat and then just hunt for mature bucks. When I was younger I'd try to kill just about every doe I could until my bag limit was filled. I was still sort of picky about the bucks I'd choose to try to kill back then but not nearly as picky as I am now. All in all, numbers aren't important to me. It's the hunt that counts, whether I kill a deer or not. wink.gif
