I have a question as to what I can do to my food plot. Last year I put down some of that shot plot and now here in Oklahoma we are in a serious drought and I think my food plot has gone and burnt up. Does anyone have any idea's to try and save it or is there any kind of food plot that may not need as much rain.

Re: Food Plot Help.

Shot plot is an annual, so if you planted it last year it should be gone anyway. Nows not the time to really plant anything anyway. Im not sure when most people do their fall plantings in oklahoma, but i would certainly wait to plant anything more until late august or september. As to what you should plant.....????? Im not sure, but there are plenty of foodplotters in here from Oklahoma that im sure can help you out. Good luck

Re: Food Plot Help.

Just saw this in the deer hunting forum a few minutes ago.

Welcome to the forums. Not real familiar with shot plot.

May not be much you can do. Read a qdma article before that had some good information pertaining to this subject about what to do in droughts, have not found it yet, but will post a link when I do.

Re: Food Plot Help.

BOWHUNTIN247 should be looking up DogDoc. They are in the same state and DogDoc really knows his stuff. I'm sure he would be eager to help.

You might give a call to The Whitetail Institute for their input also. Check out their website. Phone nos. are listed to call their consultants.

Re: Food Plot Help.

Found it. Check out this linkand look under fertilization qdma

Sounds a bit off and have never personally had to do this but Ed Spinazola says [ QUOTE ]

If you apply fertilizer once, be prepared to broadcast at least 100 lbs per acre of 0-16-16 in an emergency dry period.
