Texan_Til_I_Die
In Tallahassee - Florida's crime rate dropped for the 14th straight year in 2005 to its lowest mark since 1971 because of tougher laws, increased financial support from the Legislature and law-abiding citizens with guns, Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday. ''This report shows that staying tough on crime works,'' Bush said. ``Law abiding citizens that have guns for protection actually probably are part of the reason we have a lower crime rate.'' Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., where it is illegal to own or carry a handgun and all firearms kept in homes must be stored disassembled and/or a trigger lock kept on at all times - Two groups of tourists were robbed at gunpoint on the National Mall, just hours after the police chief declared a crime emergency in the city in response to a string of violence that included the killing of a British activist. The activist, Alan Senitt, was attacked in the Georgetown area on Sunday, his throat was slit and police say the attackers attempted to rape his companion. It was the 13th homicide in the city this month. Robberies are up 14 percent, and armed assaults have jumped 18 percent in the past 30 days. wtnhunt
Re: A Tale of Two Cities (actually it\'s two cultur Memphis like DC is on a road to self destruction. The murder and violent crime rate there has gotten way out of control. Last I heard there were over a hundred murders in Memphis back in June, you cannot turn the news on at supper time without hearing about another shooting in memphis. Here on the news the past few days I have been hearing how you can go into check in stations and turn your guns over no questions asked , and the media is saying this will keep your guns out of the hands of the violent criminals. They need to wake up and quit broadcasting this ignorance. I got just a bit of news for the media, most criminals willing to use guns in violent crimes already have guns, the general public giving theirs away will leave them more vulnerable to acts of violence. This anti gun crap is spreading in big cities. Hope no one takes this wrong, but Memphis is run by african americans and most of the violent crime is black on black, imagine that. The city is plagued with problems with corruption and lack of execution where it matters most. Seems to me they need to get to the real root of the problems and deal with them rather than creating more problems.

Guest JohnnyStorm
Re: A Tale of Two Cities (actually it\'s two cultur We've just had a knife amnesty in Britain. Lots of news about how great it is that 100,000 knives have been handed in. Oh yeah, like the muggers and gang members will hand over their weapons. It's just a cheap empty process to cover over the fact that crime isn't being dealt with. I have a colleague whose husband is a Policeman. He was angry that he had to spend a day enforcing fines on people who had put their garbage in the wrong bins! Pathetic.
