I am looking for any and all information, tips, techniques used in the past for asking people permisson to hunton their land.

Since this year I will be looking for hunting land, I am starting right after the new year!

I have seen lots of good ideas hear in the past, I just want to get all of the good ideas together. I may even start working on an article for a mag or something.

Let's hear it!

Heres some good info I found at AT;

i would say ask around work, school, church, hunt clubs, poker nights where ever. see if any one you know knows someone that has land. or where they hunt.

A guy at my work even posted a few flyers around his home asking for use of land. some people called.

just be nice & tell the truth. if you say you are going to do something do it. Just ask.

once someone let you hunt there land set some rules.

a few rules or questions need to ask

bow or gun hunt or both?

can i leave a tree stand or ground blind up the whole season?

are any days off limets? ex Thanksgiving, Christmass. I know both days are for the fam but we don;t eat till like 1pm so i could be in the woods till 10:30 or so.

where can i park?

can i use a 4wheeler.

If you want to do it on their land don;t just assume that it is ok. Ask on everything.

once you get the use of the land a few tips i have found usefull

don;t be loud by the house

send a thank you card.

do some work around there house.

don;t brake the rules you have set up.

I have also found it nice to talk to the boarding land owners even just to let them know that on so & so;s land someone will be hunting. Don;t want to shoot any dogs that spook a nice buck out of your shotting lane. Also they might say well you can hunt my land too. but maybe not.

Also in most states there is a list of land that landowners will let hunters use. you just have to find that list. it may cost a few bucks to get the list.

Re: Input Needed - Asking Permission

i run ads in the classifieds & put up postings in hardware & feed stores, seems to work pretty good for us.also we offer references & liability forms to release them from damages, & i will offer to sit down with them and write a lease agreement & a list of rules that my guys will follow, then i show them a list of hunter rules that we have that we follow no matter where we hunt. good luck

sometimes its easier to get in good with land owners by asking if you can just look for sheds at first. then after you est a good relationship, you can ask fro permission to hunt in the next season or two. it takes time but is worth it in the end! good luck

Hey now - thats a dang good idea! Thanks!

Re: Input Needed - Asking Permission

Wow, Toolman...........I'll leave that alone.

One of the selling points to hunting land for "free" is that the landowner is not as suceptable to frivolous lawsuits as one who leases is. If there is no compensation involved in the transaction, only cases of gross negligence may be viable in court.

I understand that in some area, leasing hunting land is ther thing to do, but not here, at least not YET.

Thank you for your valuable input.

Re: Input Needed - Asking Permission

personally, i don't do it until july or august. i usually take along a kid to show that i'm a family man (yep, using my kids--i said it, why do you think i had them?), and if i get permission, within a week or two of getting permission i'll stop back over with some produce from the garden and i'll offer to help around the homestead.

doesn't always work, but sometimes it does.
