Guest phantombuck
I planted some shot plot last year in south alabama and didnt have the best results. i think it was due to lack of fertilizer that i applied. Does anyone have any pics of the shot plot they could post. I want to see what a plot with matured shot plot looks like..
wtnhunt
Re: shot plot Pretty sure someone in here planted some with good results and has posted pics. Have never tried it myself. I see you registered as a member back in November, but this is your first post so welcome to the forums.

dogdoc
Re: shot plot welcome to the forum. The first year I planted brassicas nothing touched them. The 2nd year they absolutely tore them up--heck they even dug up the turnips and ate them. Brassicas provide some great nutrition during the winter months but I have found that years with heavy acorn production the deer don't hit the brassicas as much but on years with low acorn production they devour them. It is also a plant that I think the deer have to learn to eat. It's probably something they haven't seen before in your area and didn't realize it was food---don't give up on the brassicas. However--I wouldn't rely on just the brassicas. Plant a nice winter mix--winter wheat, rye, oats, winter peas, and brassicas. Providing a mix doesn't put all your eggs in one basket. todd
