Taking a Rookie Out Saturday!

One of our Engineers here at work is an officer in the Navy yet he doesnt and hasnt shot much at all. He has a .45, a .50 ML, and a .30-06 (M1).

He hasnt shot two of those..... grin.gif

Because he is here in Tulsa he really doesnt have a place to shoot. There is an old Ammunition depot and POW camp about 6-miles from the house so he is going to make the 50 mile treak to shoot with me Saturday! This should be a blast.

He is really interested in Guns so im going to pack a few of mine along too. He wants to shoot everything he can so im bringing....

Mossberg 500, 12ga

Franchi Semi-Auto, 12ga

Ruger M77, .243

Remington 742, .30-06

Savage, .22lr

Walther P22, .22lr

and probably my old Winchester saddle ring 30-30 (because it hasnt been shot in years)

We are going to sling some lead. The better news is I will empty some brass and get more free from him..... Now I have another good excuse for that new reloader! grin.gif

Re: Taking a Rookie Out Saturday!

That was fun but ouch.....

He brought 4-boxes of Corelokt. I also took my old Winchester 30-30. It has the metal kick plate (pretty old). Of course that isnt enough so I brought my .243 for range time. He also brought a Bobcat (ML). Honestly we had a Wide variety of guns.

Im not sure how much we shot but by the time I made it home I had blood at the surface of my shoulder.... grin.gif

Its a little touchy today but a hundred or so rounds out of a Rifle will do that to you. It was a good time and I collected a ton of brass to start reloading!

Re: Taking a Rookie Out Saturday!

Well of course.... We are shooting against a 10-12' bank. I hit it several times.. I rarely missed... grin.gif

Im such a huge fan of the .243 now. I can never give up my love for the .30-06 but the fall in 200 yards from that .243 astounds me.

I also shot some amazing groups at 100yds. Ive never shot that tight in my life. Im really looking forward so shooting my reloads and seeing what I can accomplish.

Btw, what is the best round (6mm) for Varmint? I was thinking about 85grn, boat tail, Hornady. Id be pushing it with Hogdon (that Im actually picking up today).

Any advice?

depends on the gun. Each one is different and likes differnt things. Kinda hve to experiment with what you have and see what it likes teh best.

We always load about 9 rounds and shoot them and see how they do, then try something else and so on.

GoodLuck.
