8ptbuckpa
My one food plot I have is not doing so well in this spot there was trophy rock mineral lick everything seems to be very big in this area my brassica and clover is 3-5 ft high. Do you think if I crushed it in to a powder or watered it so the minerals would be released in bucket do you thing it would work if I applied it to a new food plot before planting while it is still tilled dirt? Just wondering what you guys thought I may give it a try this fall.

Tominator
Re: question before planting I don't think I'd put mineral down where I plan on planting. Salts will not let anything grow where the salt is concentrated enough.
dogdoc
Re: question before planting Lime and fertilizer is all you need. When the plot is properly limed and fertilized the plants will take what natural minerals are in the soil and use them. Just find a nice place next to your food plot to use as a mineral lick--if the deer need the extra minerals they will use it. It's also a good idea to place mineral licks next to a water source. todd
wtnhunt
Re: question before planting Have to agree with Todd here. I use a trophy rock just at the edge of my field and the woods, about 10 yards off one of my plots. The mineral site should be dug somewhat in a place where the ground will hold a little water so when it does rain, your minerals are held in the ground at that site and do not just flow out or run off.
