Strut10
I finally got to take my latest project gun out & run a few through her today. I've had to sit and look at it for 6 weeks due to my back problems. But, today, I blew the cobwebs out of her. Only took 6 shots (just to test my back) of 250 gr. Barnes X's over 86.0 gr. of AA-4350 on this first trip. Velocities were a bit disappointing, so some different powders are in order. Still an awesome shooter. From the bench, wearing a T-shirt, I think about 10-15 shots would be a good quitting place. Recoil is a bit snappy. Can't wait to get back out there!! I got a lot of "tryin' out" to do!! too_pointer
Re: Took the .375 to the bench....... Sounds like fun, but the recoil would of probably knocked me over I would still like to shoot something that big ! Mike

There are several things I would like to do in life but oddly enough shooting that rifle off the bench aint one of them..... hangunnr

snapper
Re: Took the .375 to the bench....... No one ate the scope yet? LOL Groundhogs with a .375, that could get a little pricey! AJ
Re: Took the .375 to the bench....... Good to hear you are back in the saddle again. How far off were your speeds? I am guessing about 2750 fps or so?

Barnes calls for 87.0 gr. of H-4350 giving 2900+ from a 24" tube. I pushed 86.0 gr. of AA-4350 out a 26" barrel and came up waaay short. Don't know how many more grains I can put in?? I show no signs of pressure, whatsoever at 86.0. I'm guessing the AA powder (although similar in burn rate) doesn't pack the oomph of Hodgdon's. Still......I can't see it being that far off?????? I have some IMR-4350 to try. But, I'm headed to the gunshop tomorrow morning for some IMR-4320 and H-414. They seem to be the optimum players for this round. That case oughta be capable of throwing that bullet upwards of 3050 or 3100, I would think.
AJ
Re: Took the .375 to the bench....... Yep, the XMR gives a little slower speed than the Hodgdon which is gives slightly slower speeds than the IMR. I take it these shots were loaded with Weatherby brass or are you fireforming using H&H brass? If you are fireforming, it will reduce the speed a bit. I guess you have seen this listing. I am always a bit skittish about using data from there. I will bounce it off the manuals before blindly using it.

[/ QUOTE ] I spose we're gonna need that gun seeing as we were seriously under gunned last time with the 7mag and the STW. Next time I'll have my 375 Win and both 460's ready. If we don't kill any, we'll make more noise than anyone else. hangunnr

Again you buy a box of H&H ammo and fire it, or buy the brass, reload it, then fire it.......you have near the price of factory Wby. brass and way more aggravation invested in the deal. Besides, I believe the Norma (Wby.) stuff to be quite superior to Rem. or Win. brass. I have seen that data listing. Like you said...............no blind faith. I have gathered up some good looking data that I believe to be of fairly trustable source. But it just ain't laying around everywhere. You gotta do some pretty deep homework to find many recipes for this round.

These Armstrong county 'chucks are classified as dangerous game. No sub-375 guns allowed as we'd really rather not have to follow one wounded into the underbrush. Bring your H&H. Jeramie........ Not as painful as you might think. "Abrupt" is a better word for it. No need at all for the Lead Sled.

Went to Grice's yesterday and picked up a pound each of H-414 and IMR-4320 plus a box of 250 gr. Sierras. Be headed back to the bench real soon!!
