Guest outdoor_adventurer
this past winter i went out and bout a cheap $100 scouting camera. i have had it in the woods several times for a few days at a time. i have got a few nice pictures of does. no bucks. i didn't have the camera set up directly were i hunt. i set it up about 300 yards away from where i hunt with fear that if i had it too close the deer would spook and not come back for the season. i was wondering if it wasn't my camera scaring the deer off or if it was just not placed in a good enough spot to get photos of bucks. i need some help. i'm planning to set it out for a week starting next friday. i will get it in about a week. i'm planning to set it 40 yards from my stand. is that a good idea.. or no? billkay
Re: question about scouting cameras? I don't see any problem placing near your stand site at this time of year. My guess if you weren't getting any, or many pix in the other spot, it's because the camera was improperly set, or there just isn't a lot of deer activity in the area. Is there a lot of fresh deer sign where you had placed indicating the cam was not snapping but the deer were there?
WIwhitetailhunter
Re: question about scouting cameras? I've had a camera hanging on the same tree my stand was in. Got some nice pics and still saw deer while sitting in that stand.
Guest outdoor_adventurer
Re: question about scouting cameras? i had the camera placed over my grandpa's hay field off of a fence row. i figured sense i usually see alot of deer back there during the evening hours i would place it up back there to get a closer look at the deer. but i'm 99% sure they were all does in the pictures. i was a little upset but it happens you know. i have been looking into a cuddeback camera.. probably not the most expensive but a lower priced cuddeback. i've heard they are really good cameras. i am planning on setting the camera out closer to my deer stand. i will probabaly put the camera by the path that runs by mine and my grandpa's stands. thanks for the advice. wtnhunt
Re: question about scouting cameras? Leave the camera out, let the deer get used to it. It will not bother them too much. Your presence going in and out for short times is probably having a worse effect than the camera.
Bownarow
Re: question about scouting cameras? The camera will not spook bucks away from the area. Be careful of your scent as you come and go from your camera, just as you would comming and going from your stand.
