kooter
I am wanting to use my Nova as a slug gun this year. What do u guys recommend doing to it to make it work. what kind of choke tube and what kind of slugs should i try. It is drilled and tapped so I may put a scope on it. thanks for all the help. Guest outdoor_adventurer
Re: Benelli Nova i have a mossberg with that had the ripped sights on top for birds, and i was told to run a full choke out of it. you may want to check up on that but my grandpa's friend, that owns his own bow and gun shop, told me that. he told me that the slug would not hurt the ripped bird barrel. i also run rifled slugs out of that same set up... it hasn't done me wrong yet! ilhunter1986
Re: Benelli Nova i think adventururer means his has a vent ribbed barrell. if i remember right u should put a improved cylinder choke tube in it and not the full. make sure that u use rifled slugs when u shoot. hope that helps
Guest outdoor_adventurer
Re: Benelli Nova hey thanks for telling me that... i'm gonna switch out the chokes and hopefully it does something good for me! haha
too_pointer
Re: Benelli Nova Some of the Mossbergs, 835 & 935 , are overbored to 10 ga. dimensions, and you cannot use slugs in those barrels.I do believe that slug barrels are made for both of them too. Full chokes work better for buckshot and the more open chokes are better for slugs. I believe people use improved cyclinder for slug shooting. I would check with your manual or call the company to be sure and safe. too_
johnf
Re: Benelli Nova I've got a Nova 12 ga. with a 28" smooth barrel. I put an adjustable truglo sight on it and use the stock IC choke in it for slugs. With that combination I get about a 3" group shooting in a sitting position using winchester riffled slugs. longhorn57
Re: Benelli Nova With rifled slugs I don't think it will hurt to try IC all the way up to full the slug should conform to whatever the choke is and 1 may group better than the other. husker
Re: Benelli Nova first benelli sells a slug barrel for the nova i would get that and then some quality glass on top.
johnf
Re: Benelli Nova [ QUOTE ] first benelli sells a slug barrel for the nova i would get that and then some quality glass on top. [/ QUOTE ] That depends on how long of a shot your taking to me. If your not shooting more than 100 yards I don't think that the slug barrel is a must. First the saboted slugs cost a small fortune and second, at 100 yards you still have plenty accuracy and power for deer with the smooth barrel and riffled slugs. I would suggest putting a red dot on top of it sence it's already drilled and tapped and then shooting some el cheapo riffled slugs through it. I think you would be supprized how accurate it can be. If you aren't in a shotgun only state and have a rifle, the riffled slug barrel is uneccesary. IMO
Guest bowhunter61
Re: Benelli Nova I own a nova and use both barrels. I use a rifled choke in the smooth bore, with federals power shok sluggers 3", grouped well with open sights. As for the rifled barrell, I use 2 3/4 buckhammers also grouped well. I didn't buy the benelli factory barrell, I bought a Itacha barrel instead alot cheaper, about $150.
