Guest hookedonhunting
My dad and i caught about 30 last saturday in the Chatahoochee River fishing with worms. We also caught 8 brown trout. They averaged about 9 in. With the biggest at 13 inches. I want to get into flyfishing but dont have 500 hundredbucks to spend on one right now. hutchies
Re: Rainbow trout Fly fishing poles and rigs are high but I think you can get in for well under $
Guest Andrea
Re: Rainbow trout Holy cow...............I've never priced fly fishing rods and reels. ( Just looked them up at Bass Pro) That's ridiculous!!! And I don't understand why it costs that much. Heck, we have SALTWATER rigs that don't cost THAT much!!!! That's just crazy! I won't be getting into that sport. Those fish just aren't big enough.

[/ QUOTE ] When you hold a good fly rod, you'll understand. They're really crafted to perfection. Perfect balance etc... a lot goes into them. Jeramie
Re: Rainbow trout Do like me if you want to get into it. Go buy a cheap O rig for roughly $50. If it still appeals to you build your way up. I started on a $25 panfish rig. I still do not own a $500 setup but the one I have is nicer. Its a good way to get started for far less. Guest wmramse
Re: Rainbow trout Jeramie has it right. Like with any sport you're just getting into there are a lot of up-front costs you have to stomach to be able to be successful. BPS has some pretty decent fly rod combos for <$100, or at least they do in the store. If you don't find something to your liking try Wal Mart. Ours has several rods in the $15-20 range, and a decent reel can be had for $30-40. If that's too high for you, you can probably find a better setup for less if you shop some garage sales early. I'm really just getting into fishing myself - I used to with my Dad, but never had my own gear. When I got out of the Army I got a cheap rod and reel and some powerbait and tore up the trout in Mountain Home. I've got better rods and reels now, but nothing that cost me more than $75 for a combo. And I catch fish. I might catch more or better fish with better gear, but I can't keep more than my limit anyway, so I'm pretty happy with what I have. BTW, if you're interested in tying your own flies, I have a couple of nice kits and a book I'd let go for $75 shipped. I won one years ago and tied some flies with it, and the other kit and book was a gift that I've never used.
