Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Gander Mountain! yup...i live about 5 miles or so from the one here...i like it....a few years ago they moved it from its original location and moved it to a bigger place....its huge now...and they have done alot of work to the archery department and have made that look good....plus the fact that my aunt works in the lansing store (get that employee discount, along with a "family night" that they have a few times a year where any family members of the employees can go in and get anything at an employee discount..which i believe is 20%)
RackBlaster
Re: Gander Mountain! They both have pretty much the same in pricing, but i have found that Gander Mountain carries a bigger selection of items and they tend to carry alot of items made by the smaller guy's that don't advertise their products and have no sponserships, and also local buinesses. While Bass Pro sells their own line of products and sponsered , well advertised products. But i can stay all day in either store.

johnf
Re: Gander Mountain! Our Gander Mt. is nowhere close to Bass Pro. Thier selection is limited, the achery department is "less than helpfull" and service is "limited". Gander is 35 minutes from home and bass pro is another hour. I'll buy the gas and go to Bass Pro when I want something.
Doc
Re: Gander Mountain! I used to be a great fan of Gander Mountain, but their stock management techniques are beginning to irritate me. It seems that everytime I go there for something, what I want is out of stock and stays that way for several weeks. Of course, they always offer to order things for me, but with a 1 hour drive (one way) to their door, this really doesn't help me out a whole lot. I am now getting the opinion that if everything that I need is going to have to be ordered, I might as well deal with one of the mail-order houses myself. Also, the expertise of most of the salesmen is generally somewhere below my own. So expecting any level of guidance from the sales personel is a wasted thought. I'm not sure just what their problem is. It seems that when they first opened up, it was a whole different kind of a store. Doc

Mach1
Re: Gander Mountain! Have one 30 minutes from my parents and 10 minutes from my place I'm moving to tomorrow. Four guns have been purchased from the GM near my parents and all employees we've dealt with there have been very helpful. Selection-wise, not nearly as much as BPS or Cabela's and it seems as though prices are a bit higher at GM as well.
snapper
Re: Gander Mountain! Gander Mt. does seem to carry the "small" guy stuff like local scent distributors and such...but IMO, they aren't even close to a Bass Pro or Cabelas! Don't get me wrong...I like Gander Mt., but if there was a Bass Pro/Cabela's closer...I'd go there.
Strut10
Re: Gander Mountain! From what I have seen with our nearest GM.........they aren't a pimple on the bum of Bass Pro. Not nearly as big, no better prices and the staff is not overly knowledgable. I don't go there unless I'm bored.
Mirage
Re: Gander Mountain! well thanks guys for the heads up on GM. Guest Finn
Re: Gander Mountain! I've found good deals there. I don't feel like any store has the best price on every item. Personally, I prefer to buy bows from a local pro instead of one of the big chains.

Shaun_300
Re: Gander Mountain! No Gander Mountains in Canada, but I've been to a couple in the states, one in Duluth, MN and one in Marquette, MI. I've spent a lot of money in those stores! Sure wish Canada had them! yooperkenny
Re: Gander Mountain! I think you have to give them a chance; you're going to get different levels of service at different outlets of the same chain because they're staffed by different people! Not everyone at Bass Pro and Cabela's is knowledgeable and friendly, either. Our local GM has some guys who know firearms, bows and fishing pretty well - but not all of them do. Gander is good to hit for clearances too - I picked up my Lone Wolf climber for 40% off after season
Guest nwmobuckfan
Re: Gander Mountain! I know the past two summers I got Scent-Lok jacket and bibs at more than 50% off at our GM. My wife works at BPS so I rarely go into GM anymore. But before that GM was OK on some items. I am pretty neutral toward them!
hunterfisherman
Re: Gander Mountain! I worked part time at a Gander Mountain for a while. You can count on people having good knowledge of the product they are selling. I had to take a knowledge test first. Not the cheapest place in town but usually a the best selection. maytom
Re: Gander Mountain! I have one about 1/2 hr drive away from my house. I'll gladly drive there instead of a 3 hr trip to the closest Bass pro!! They all sell the basic same stuff, so what's the big deal really!! AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Gander Mountain! I like my Gander Mountain, great deals and the staff they have are super friendly. Once I found out they price match internet offers, I was sold on them. Nearest Bass Pro is 2 hours away and Cabela's is 2 1/2 hours, Gander Mountain, a mere 20 minutes away!! Dakota
Re: Gander Mountain! From my experience, they're a lot like a Sportsman's Warehouse, except not as friendly and the employees are more aloof. Ask Hutchies (I believe), he didn't have a good experience w/ them at all. Bass Pro definitely blows Gander Mtn. out of the water! If you ask me, stick w/ Bass Pro and Sportsman's Warehouse. They are a lot nicer and down to earth (and their prices won't put a big dent in your wallet, either) than the people at Scheels, Cabelas and Gander Mtn. But that's just m.h.o. 8ptbuckpa
Re: Gander Mountain! The one in harrisburg Pa is not very good most of the people that work their have no clue the only guys that really know anything are in the archery shop section. there is no comparison whatsoever from GM TO BPS or CABELAS (MY THING IS WHEN I NEED FISHING STUFF I GO TO BPS AND HUNTING STUFF I GO TO CABELAS)
BearClaw
Re: Gander Mountain! I've always been a Cabela's fan and have ordered from their catalog but the nearest one is nearly 3 hours away! I've been to several Gander Mountain stores out of state and have found some good quality camo clothes at pretty good prices. The archery depts. seem well stocked but I haven't had any interaction with the personnel yet. We have one about 1 1/2 hours away and I''ll be visiting them soon. Hard to compare with Cabela's though!
