Re: Are you doing anything to save on gas????????

I'm using a syphon hose and getting it from my neighbor! grin.gif just kidding!

I am trying to obey the speed limits and keeping the air in my tires to the correct psi. Cost me about $6.00 a day to drive back and forth to work and I live about 27 miles away. (Drive my Pontiac Grand Prix to work)

In a few months a co-worker wants to car pool because her husband who works here too is retiring, I say why not, its $60.00 easily a month in savings! That is money I can use for hunting! smile.gif

If I remember right on mythbusters the no a/c did better on the track than the a/c on. The computer they were using was only showing the air going threw the engine I think and on the track no a/c went about 15 extra laps after the a/c on ran out of gas.

Re: Are you doing anything to save on gas????????

i've had 3 different chevy 350 trucks that i changed plugs in. put in the new bosch platinum 4 spark plugs. got 2 mpg more on each vehicle. no bull. just that good. i'm sure i sound like a bosch salesman, but i'm not. in fact, i'm going to make a post on this very thing.

I tried putting the tail gate down but have not noticed any real mileage improvement doing so.

Does that work?

They tested that on Mythbusters. 2 idential trucks adn the exact same amount of gas and found that the tailgate being down makes essentially no difference. They also tested the a/c, no a/c idea and surprisingly the truck with the a/c on got better mileage.

[/ QUOTE ]

I seem to recall that the truck with the tailgate up made it about 30 miles farther than the one with the gate down, then they showed how the tail gate down causes the airflow to put pressure on the rear of the truck causing more drag on the vehicle. The tailgate up created a bubble of circulating air in the box that caused the airstream over the vehicle to pass over the truck and not get forced down into the bed.

A great example of this effect is when you have some gear in the uncovered box during a driving rain, and it is surprisingly dry when you get to your destination.

The effect is minimal, but it does exist that driving with the gate up is more effecient than with it down.

That is what I saw too. The computer said AC on and windows closed was better. But, windows open and no AC lasted almost 15 minutes longer in a real test.

Guess no need to have the tailgate down now. shocked.gif
