Bio-logic round up corn and beans

Recommended Posts

Here is a couple of pics of two plots i have up in central Wisconsin. They were taken in early june, 1 month after planting and are doing alot better than expected. I had a really bad outbreak of spotted knappweed and it was destroying my clover plot. I had the clover plot for 3 years which was the upper pic. the bottom pic was an old road that went thru the property that rarely was used so i disced it up and planted this year. Next month i am going to broadcast some turnip/brassica mix in, the deer go crazy for it. The corn i will let stand until late into the winter and if there is any left i will knock it down for the turkey.

Re: Bio-logic round up corn and beans

I too am becoming a believer in the corn / soybean combo. Although we planted the seed a little differently.

5/3 we sprayed about 6 1/2 acres with Credit-Extra. 2 qt. per ac. 5 /13 I had a farmer disc the plot with offset discs. 5/16 the plot was planted 5 acres of Roundup ready corn with 2 1/2 acres of Roundup soybean surrounding it. Fertilizer was put in the seeder at the time of planting. 200 lbs. per acre of 19-19-19. 6 /12 we sprayed the soybean 1 qt. per acre. 6/19 I sprayed the corn also at 1 qt per acre. 7/5 I sprayed the soybean again.

Now the corn is about 6 ft. tall and looking great. The soybean is growing well also except the deer keep it mowed quite well. This was our intent to keep the deer out of the corn. It seems as though the more the deer eat the soybean the better it grows.

Weeds are no problem at all. Spraying is easy to do and the plants sure enjoy not competing with the weeds.

We expect the soybean to die off about the time the corn reaches full maturity. This should give us a long lasting field of food well into late fall until our brassicas are ready. smile.gif

Re: Bio-logic round up corn and beans

Looks good. I've got to find some roundup ready corn next year from one of my students and plant that.

This year my food plot is too wet now. At first it was too cold, now it's too wet. That food plot is really struggling.

Better luck next year I guess.
