"Failed" plot doing O.K.

Recommended Posts

This spring, while I was laid up, my dad & brother put in 4 acres of clover and covered with oats. None of the oats came up for a cover crop. So the ragweed & foxtail went berzerk and took over. Thought all was lost. Went and mowed the weeds off the other night.........just so they wouldn't seed...........and to my surprise.........a cover crop of foxtail & ragweed (it was nearly hood-high on a 50 hp tractor!!!) was hiding a heck of a bunch of clover!!! laugh.gif Hopefully, now, I can frost-seed in any empty spots in the spring and hit the whole thing with an herbicide this time next year and have a dandy clover field.

strut, that happens a lot. You may need to mow it one more time next month or so. By Sept-Oct, those annual weeds will quit and the clovers will have a nice window of time to fill in.

Also, you can broadcast some clover seed the next month or two. If you get some good rains it may germinate and give you a head start filling in the bare spots.
